Topic: RE: How to choose a surgeon? A. Ortiz, A. Lopez, or F. Garcia???

I traveled from CT to have my VSG with Dr Alvarez on 8/15/15. Best decision I ever made, wish I went thru with it years ago. I sing his praises to everyone..... But so does everyone else that has gone to him! Never heard, or read one negative comment about Dr A, and it really is because he is the best. No more than 3 surgeries a day, in a full hospital the entire time, and his technical staff are awesome!!!!!

And there is actual aftercare! I can talk to Dr Alvarez and his staff everyday, ask any question, call them. He continues to be there for his patients after surgery. I know he costs more, but you said cost wasn't a factor with your life (which was a big reason I chose Dr A), so travel shouldn't be that big of a factor either. He's the best :) just my honest opinion.

Hi Caligirl05-

I am scheduled with Dr. Lopez for a band to DS revision on 11/2 @ VIDA. I spoke with the staff directly and they tell me that he only does 2-3 surgeries per day. He has been very easy to reach via email and a private FB page through VIDA and seems very knowledgeable. I was originally scheduled with Dr. Garcia for a sleeve, but after learning more info. decided on the DS procedure. My coordinator told me that Dr. Lopez was more skilled with the DS and, although a little more expensive, would be a better choice.

I'm still a little apprehensive of course, but so far the staff at VIDA has been very nice to work with.

I would put Dr Pompa and Limarp on the list to consider. We have had three family members use their services and have been beyond impressed. Dr Pompa served residency time at the Mayo clinic and the hospital is ICB certified.

We go to TJ a few times a year to pick up many of the family's prescriptions and supplements.

The pharmacy at the medical building at Boulevard Agua Caliente # 4558 works with all the Drs in the building and will get things they do not have on hand as well.

Topic: RE: Are you judged because you decided to go to Mexico for surgery?

My Sister went to TJ, to Limarp for her VGS, and a year later my mother and brother in law followed and had the sleeve done.

Folks in Sacramento, where they live, went all kinds of wild eyed crazy about "Going to MEXICO???!!!"

She had a list of facts about the clinic and the surgeon and the staff and their qualifications to calm concerned friends. Some people just were going to be hysterical about it no matter what, but the phrase "residency at the Mayo clinic" and "ICE Certification" calms most of them down pretty quick.

Put together a punch list of your Dr's qualifications and it will help all the concerned friends and family.

Topic: RE: Dr. Joffe with AMBI. Good or bad???

My experience with him and his staff was excellent. I went with my friend and we both had gastric sleeves. We decided on ambi and Joffe because he came highly recommended by a friend. He also spke with our family doctors before he cleared us for surgery.

When we got to Guadalajara, driver picked us up from airport and took us to hospital. Dr. Joffe was waiting there to admit us (we each got a medium sized suite.) Hospital very impressive. Anesthetist and internist did pre-op appointments with us. Surgery next morning went great. He found and fixed a hiatal hernia during my surgery. There was no extra charge. I was in pain for a day afterwards but got drugs. My friend didn't have much pain. Dr. Joffe and his staff checked on us several times a day. Very professional and caring. He gave us DVDs of our surgeries to take back to our fam docs.

After 3 nights in hospital we were taken to hotel (5 star). He came to hotel every day and called us down to meet him in the lobby area. He made sure we were fine and went through post-op instructions. Recovery was quite good. Dr. Joffe followed up regularly via email to ask how we're doing.

It's been over a year since surgery. I've lost all my extra weight and am keeping it off. Other people I know who went other places for sleeves (and paid less than I did) lost weight but then regained. My friend and I have had success and no issues. My sister in law has since gone to Dr. Joffe to have a sleeve also. She did great.

I highly recommend Dr. Joffe.
