What is too much protein

I had surgery 1997 - have been following a general rule of 70 grams of protein per day. Someone commented that if I get too much protein, my metabolism will turn extra protein to fat, we have been trained to focus on getting in the protein and I guess I never thought about how much protein is too much. What is the general rule for enough protein and at what grams per day is it too much protein?

I was told by my surgeon to get in 60 to 80 grams of protein a day - with aiming for the 80 grams of protein. Since WLS candidates suffer from malasorbtion (sp?), we will not absorb all of the protein, vitamins, etc. that we take in. Hope this helps. Nodrama Kim

i read on the protein drink container that you are supposed to have 1gm of protein for each pound you weigh. that maybe if you are trying to build muscle and are working out. check to see what a diabetic diet requires. that is the most balanced.
