I just read in an article that if you take in more protien than your body uses, the body stores it as fat!?! Has anyone else heard of this? Throughout the article it compares it to fat storage like all othre types of food, carbs, fats, etc. Let me know what you think? ~Sandy

I believe that the scientific answer is that if you take in more calories than you expend, the excess is stored in fat. The body does not delineate whether the calories are from protein, carbs or fat.

absolutely 100% true. if you over eat your body stores fat. doesn't matter what you eat. if you consume more calories than you burn off, you store fat. it's hard to eat more protein than you'll burn though, you'll get bored with eating first. and if you're eating protein, you're not eating carbs or fats which contain more calories. so chow down on that protein!

see this much I knew was true, but the way the article reads (was in a magazine about yoga & pilates) is that the body detects which type of fuel we are putting into our bodies and then dicides which is used first, and anything that is left over is then stored as fat. Am I making any sense.

yes. that makes sense. it does decide which to use first. and no matter what type or what combination, once we've had more calories then we need, it's stored as fat even if it's protein.

For sure my body knows carbs, if I eat them, I could graze all day. If I stick to proteins,,I fill faster and stay satisfied longer. Calories in vs energy out. I read that the body will use protein from muscle mass and store carbs quicker for quick use later on.....hth
