Pain, noise, and Questions
When I drink (I'm on whole liquids) I hear all these noises in my stomace, or I at least assume thats where it's coming from. And once I swallow it's uncomfortable, sometimes down right painful.
I am 10 days out from gastric bypass surgery, has anyone else had this problem? What is it? and does it go away?

My stomach made gurgling noises just about everytime I ate or drank for a long time and sometimes it still does. I also got that uncomfortable feeling for the first few months or so. Your pouch is healing still and will probably be sore for a little while longer. I know this reply isn't very informative but just know that what you're feeling is normal.

Hey girl..well my nut told me that you may hear noises, almost like when you have a really bad flu and you know when you can hear things doing straight through you like diareaha.. I am sure that is it. As for the pain try smaller swallows... It maybe too much fluid at one time....I know that when I swallow something too big I get a pain from it. Just try. If the pains are that bad.. PLEASE call your surgeon....You had some troubles just cover your behind....Take care and I can't wait to hear about your losing and feeling better.....Huggsss..Crystal
Hi Sharmie, After surgery my stomach made soooooooo much noise it will slow down as time goes by. Sip... Sip that is what you should be doing. You will get gas bubbles when you drink to fast, and they can hurt like crazy. If you were use to drinking fast before surgery you have to teach yourself how to sip . I guzzled everything fast before surgery I too had to teach myself how to sip. Good luck to you. DeAnn
Just as everyone else said the noises are TOTALLY normal! The one thing I do want to add about the pain you are having is if I drank liquid that was too cold or too warm it hurt like the heck! If you are taking small sips and experiencing the pain, try changing the temp of your liquids. It seemed like forever before I could tolerate really cold (like right out of the fridge) liquids.

Hi Sharmie,
I am glad to see you post. Are you healing well? There are going to be so many changes, but they are good changes. As far as the pain, your pouch is very swollen and taking to big of sips will irritate it. There is just not much room in there right now. I know sometimes all we want to do is take a nice big gulp of water because you feel sooo thirsty, or we just want to get it IN. Just remember it will soon get easier. Something that helped me in the beginning to make my mouth feel more refreshed would be to suck on some ice or ice chips. It really helped me, but then again everyone is different. Take care and good luck on your journey. I know you are going to do an amazing job. God Bless----Toni
I have a stupid question did you count your ice as water intake? I know you probably did, but how did you measure it? I was thinking that probably would be safer for me at first to do the ice thing.. I was a water guzzler.....well an liquid not only water but anything liquid....Help.......14 more nights I am so nervous....lol
Hi Crystal,
I am pretty sure that ice expands to almost double it's size when it goes from liquid to solid. If you have a 2cup measuring cup put one cup of water in it and put it in the freezer and it should give you a general idea about how much it will expand. I know changing the way I drank and ate was the hardest for me. It is the only time I have thown up. I don't "test the waters" with food, so I haven't gotten sick, other then sf ice cream, but that is something I can have but I just can't physically tolerate it. I don't know why, it is weird. I think has to do with the dairy, but I am not sure, anyway, If you have anymore questions or just need someone to talk to feel free to email me your phone # or I can email you mine. I just live in Sebewaing, and I use to work in Vassar, so I know it somewhat. If you ever want to join our support group we would love to have you. It is normal to be nervous,so just try to find something to focus on for the next 2 wks. and you will do great. We all have a closet that needs our attention.....LOL. I want to wish you the best on your journey to the losing side. God Bless and take care---Toni
Hey Sharmie,
I am six weeks post op, and my stomach is still making some big noises. I too think my it is normal; but it can get worse in certain times and situtations. Is it worse when you eat or drink certain things. I got an ulcer and a stricture! This has nothing to do with the noise; I do believe we need to pay attention to our stomach's. And sometimes I think they are just plain telling us the mad as hell at what we have done to them (LOL)! Take care of yourself, and take it one day at a time. Sincerely, Judy R.
