okay.. I posted about an hour or so ago on my first appointment with a surgeon and how it went.. I have been thinking and I have decided NOT to go back to him.  How can I feel safe and secure knowing that he only has done 8 freaken lap band procedures.  I have decided to call my INS Co. on Monday and ask for a seconde opinion.  I have made up my mind.  I am going to go to MMPC where my dr wanted to send me in the FIRST place.  OH NO stupid me wanted to go to this rinky dink dr i went to today... FOR THE LOVE OF GAWD.. I could not have made a worse decision.  uggh.. I knew somthing had to be wrong when I could not find any information on him on OH.   With going to MMPC there are 3 Dr's I can choose from.  ALL in which have did more than 8 procedures, and ALL do the RNY also... I dont want that.. but at least that is more experience under their belt... Okay.. I feel a lot better now that I have made up my mind on what I am going to do.. SO what if I have to go and loose 25 lbs before they will perform.  I think I am making a good decision here... Thanks for all of your replies in the first post.. greatly appreciated!!!

here it is.. if you want a refresher!  :O) http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/lapband/a,messageboard/act ion,replies/board_id,5359/cat_id,4959/topic_id,3315414/ Thanks again...

Any surgeon with his weight in salt will put you through a pre-op program.  It's important to lose some of that weight off your liver and also get you ready for the big change that is coming.  I had to go to therapy and do a pre-op diet.  I was also the #9 surgery done at U of M and I had no worries about it. Go with your gut feeling, but also be prepared for some really hard work before you get your surgery date.

Jodi, I'm so glad you changed your mind.  I was actually scared for you with this surgeon.  I think you will like MMPC.  I had Dr. Foote and he is a wonderful, caring person.  I am wondering how many people this other guy is going to perform this surgery on.  I do know he is a general surgeon and not a bariatric surgeon.  That really scares me and I hope will scare others.  I think you won't be disappointed with MMPC.  They have a complete pre-care and after-care program.  You are told up front how things will be, you're given a notebook that answers most any question you might have and you are given phone numbers and email addresses if you have other questions.

THanks Ann.. I too am glad I changed my mind.   I am thinking about going with Dr Baker.. he has done more Lap bands than the others.  I will just go and see what happens. Thanks for the concern...

I have to agree about MMPC.  I originally went to another doctor that has only done a hand full of laps, but my reg doc would not give me the referral that he was requiring.  She told me to go to MMPC and I am sooooo glad.  I have gone through the orientation, interist, blood work, behavioralist, and will be going to have a sleep study on the 21 of June.  I have done this in a relativly short period of time, just about a month or so.   So good for you, and good luck. You will not be discouraged with them at all.. Fingers Crossed

I feel like I wasted time going to this Dr.  Oh well.. that is behind me and now I am moving on.  What kind of INS do you have???  I have Priority Heath... and was wondering if my is going to go as fast as yours.  Also..what type of surgerie are you haveing???  Maybe it depends on what surgery you choose, the faster it will go.. Hmm dont know...I dont think I will need a sleep study.  I was diagnosed with Apena 2 years in Dec.  But who knows what they are going to do.  My sleep Dr is also at MMPC.  I should have KNOWN... not to go to a damn Dr I did not know nothing about.. I'm just so upset... GRRRRRR... Thanks for listing to me vent! Jodi

Jodi,   I have Definity Health, it is actually United Health partners, so I don't know how different that is from Priority Health.  As for surgery, I want to have the sleeve.  If my insurance will cover it, if not I will have RNY.  Just depends.   Any way,  things will happen for you if they are meant to be....check out a couple of doc's and maybe you'll find one you are happy with.

Bottom line...you have to do what you feel you need to do...and if you don't feel comfy with this Dr or is track record per say.....then you will be second guessing everything he does...or says ...This ultimately has to be YOUR decision..and who you are confident enough in to give you the results you need and want.
