Need some info on insurance.....

From what I understand Medicaid will cover the surgery if it is medically necessary and you meet their criteria. Is there a phone number on the back of your insurance card? Call them and ask what is required to qualify for surgery.

That's a toughie . I believe the surgical place must be a center of excellence - that's insurance lingo for hurdle to jump. To be a center of excellence they must have done a required amount of surgeries I believe and to to the surgeries they must be a center of excellence. So it's a catch 22 deal but there are some out there. It's kinda like, to get a credit card you must have a checking account and to get a checking account you must first have a credit card,,,
Ask the surgical team if they take medicaid. If they don't then ask them if they know who does.

I don't have Medicaid but I do have Medicare and they also said you need a Center of Excellance. I don't have the list now, it was almost a year ago when I looked it up but I do know there were about 10 different Centers of Excellance in the Detroit area.
Unfortunately my secondary Insurance did not cover most of them. So I ended up going to Hurley in Flint which both Medicare and M-Care covered. Now I am not complaining about Hurley. I have a good surgeon and have had excellant care but it is a bit over 60 miles away!
Go to Michigans Medicare/Medicaid website and you can ask for authorized Bariatric or Weight Loss Surgery places. If I remember right it takes some searching to get what you want.
Good Luck
