I was told that hair loss was normal and expected. Just remember that it will grow back. It will just take some time. I was told that you will lose hair in the first 7 months or so, then it will slowly start growing back. I am only a few weeks out, but I wanted to tell you what I was told.

I hope it slows down for you.

Hugs

Jenny

Increasing the protein really helps.  Mine started to fall out and I freaked.  I would run my fingers through my hair and bring out lots!  I increased my protein and took my biotin.  Within a few weeks it let up, but still was falling out.  About 8-9 months my hair started growing back...and it's still coming back in.  All I can advise, other that what is above...figure out new hairstyles and have fun with that.  I didn't really realize how thin my hair got until I was looking back on pictures.  Now that it is coming back in, it's coming in a bit thicker.   Michelle P.S. My avatar photo is about when my hair started to come back.  I had to style it so it didn't look so bad.  Talk to your hairstylist about various items you can use to help add volume.  I used Redkin (?) VaVoom (black can) mousse.  Can't remember what it said on the can, but 'take me higher' comes to mind.

I am shedding like a dog!     But since I had 2 surgies within a 3 week period...it doesn't surprise me.   I am getting at least 70- 80 gr of protein a day, plus my vitamins.   That may be helping some but I have also been told that this could be a side effect from anathesia(sp) so I guess I will just live with it. I just hate leaving hair all over my clothes and pillows, and furniture.....lol

Hey Crystal..... I'm just newly out so I haven't had that pleasure yet.  However my friend in Chicago gave me the heads up. So I asked my doc's office what to expect....or should get a different hair style, (vanity i guess) but i was told  everyone loses hair at different rates because of our own metabulism and how we absorb the vitamins....it may fall out slow or fast however in most cases in the 6-12month range it will come back. I know my friend Geri didn't lose a bit and then Mary was just the oppissite. I know this doesn't help the hair come back a.s.a,p. but it is always good to know there is someone who has gone through what you're going through.  Hang in there! Take Care B

Stop looking at it. Count your follicles. Go for a Mohawk. I did it for three weeks. Go for a reverse Mohawk and scare people. Dye what you have left all different colorsand tell people you were part of the latest survey crew at Chernoble. Buy more smaller clothes. Wait a month and it will grow back just like it was. kp

This post isn't specific to Crystal.....I'm sure you are experiencing normal hair loss, but I always believe in giving the truth about surgery so here goes:

My WLS kicked me into female androgenetic alopecia, which is just like male pattern baldness, but it's in women.  It's genetic, and usually happens as you get older.  In my case, the docs think that the physical stress of surgery jump started this process for me.   I was losing and losing and everyone kept telling me it would come back.  I even had a few people "yell" at me for not getting in my protein and biotin (which I was).  It's not going to grow back, and I'm going to have to live with that.  I wouldn't trade my hair for the 128 lbs. that I've lost!! Anyway, not trying to scare anyone or put ideas in your head and give you things to worry about.  But know that it can be a side effect of surgery.  If it's in your genes, it's going to happen anyway, but the surgery could just bring it on faster.

I've heard that Nioxin hair products help.  I use Nioxin but my hair isn't fallling out yet and I'm not sure why (knock on wood).  I'm just about 4 months post op.  I've read that surgery itself is what causes hair loss.  From what I read, its the stress that the surgery puts on your body.   I know that protein and vitamins can also affect your hair loss, but I think those are not exclusive of the surgery stress.

I asked  why you lose hair after surgery, and I was told that people like all other animals lose hair in cycles kinda like dogs shed twice a year, and that the drugs they give you to knock you out causes hair loss in most if not all people.  the reply I got is depressing but kinda makes sense.
