Well was rushed to the hospital and have been here 5 days
Oh Holly! How scary that is to know that you could have died...been there done that recently! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this stressful time.
Be sure to ask for anti depressant if you need one and are not already on one. It made a big difference for me. And having an experiance like this would cause depression in anyone! I was in for 4 weeks with my evisceration and the Drs and staff were wonderful at Hurley.
Make sure you ask any questions you might have and don't let them leave till you have an answer, understanding what is going on is a big step to healing as well.
Good Luck!

I'm at St Joe. Hopefully I'll be home tomorrow. We are having a conflict right now as to what pain meds I should be sent home on and what my pain level "really" is. They say "let us know if you're in pain" and when I do they say "You're due for your meds in 3 more hours". I could be in pain at home and at this point am really hoping thats where I am soon.

HOPE YOUR FEELING BETTER---
I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL TOO--CHEST PAIN AND UPPER BACK PAIN--NOTHING RELATED TO THE RYN SURGERY--THEY THINK IT IS MUSSLER AND I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANY MEDICATION THAT HELPS---THEY DON'T DEAL WITH PT THAT HAVE WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY AND THE MEDICATION GOES THRU BEFORE IT HELPS THE PAIN!!! I STAYED FOR 3 DAYS AND AM HOME WITH 2 DIFFERENT MEDICATIONS AND JUST KEEP TRYING TO FIND ONE THAT HELPS!!
ANYWAY HOPE YOU GET HOME SOON!!!
GODS BLESSING FOR A SPEEDY RECOVERY!!!

Holly, I am new and have been looking around and reading quite a bit on OH. I am sorry to hear about your complications and glad to know you are o.k. I was hoping you could help me with some advice. I am working with Dr. Wood for WLS. I go to my first consult on 8-13. I am so confused with all the different forms and what is right for me. No one really knows what will happen, there is always a risk. I of course am somewhat a worry wart. I am a mother of four boys. My husband has been in and out of jobs. Finally landed one and has been there for two years. We struggle financially and right now are behind. But I need my life back. I suffer from degenerative disc disease and I know if I was 110 lbs lighter I wouldn't hurt so much.
But then reading all the cons with WLS I wonder.
In all honesty, what can you tell me?
Your guidance and support is greatly appreciated.
Blessings,
Jennifer

Well I am also the mother of four children and I really can understand your concerns. This is scary and serious and should not be taken lightly. Even though that is not what I meant to do with my post if it caught your attention and made you take a second look at this complication that is good. It will stick in your mind at make you more aware if these symptoms arise. I am grateful I am alive and thinking about what could have happened really does scare me. If I had to make the decision about whether or not to have the surgery today I would still do it. I of course would have preferred to not have had to deal with the complications but I would still do it even knowing what I know now. The one thing I would change is the fact that I wasn't very informed about the post-op complications. I had Dr Sapala (was partners with Dr Wood and they invented the Sapala-Wood Micro-Pouch) and he was a fantastic man and surgeon but he was with CORI Centers at the time(2003) and CORI treated patients badly and were more interested in the bottom line than the welfare of the patient and because of that the post-op care left a lot to be desired. I felt I did a lot of research on my own and that I was pretty knowledgeable but there wasn't a lot out there at the time about the risk of bowel obstructions with WLS patients. I am not sure it would have deterred me even if I knew though. It didn't stop my husband and he knew. He just had his surgery 3 months ago by Dr. Wood. Dr Wood in my book is second only to Dr Sapala and I would have been very freaked out if my husband had had to get someone else. If you do decide to go through with this just know he is a very capable surgeon and you will be in good hands. Also if you are nervous about any complications you think you may be having just don't shrug it off. I wish you the best luck.
