One day good..next day sick??

Hi Everyone, I try and stay optimistic and always look at the postive. I really am so happy I had surgery and overall have done very well. My problem is I am 9 weeks out today and I am throwing up (not dumping, but throwing up my food) at least a few times a week. I have been cleared for all foods except steak (have to wait till 12 weeks) I must get protein in first.  What I do not understand is for example I had Chicken w/ broccoli - chinese food on Wedsday and it was fine- with just a very small amount of rice and focused on mainly chicken with a few bites of broccoi and rice. Then heated it up later and man oh man did I get sick?? What the heck?? Why?? It did not seem dry-why can I sometimes have reheated food and other times no. Then last night I have had a half of sandwitch with light mayo - chicken lunch meat and cheese and I have had this several times before, but it came right back up. I am feeling frusterated because I thought things were getting better, but seems like I am not progressing. Any advice from those farther out- should I still be sticking with softer foods? Thanks in advance for your help..

How much do you chew, remember chew, chew, chew, then chew some more, also be aware of how fast you are eating. If your chewing and eating slow and still having this problem, check with your Doctor. Good luck.

I have been lucky and have only had a couple of episodes like that, but what I did was the day after the foamies or vomiting I went back to liquid/realsoft food to give my pouch a rest and the day after back to normal. As for the chicken I have read others say that reheating meat in microwave makes them sick.   Again not professional on this but if you are going to reheat something make sure you do it slowly with liquid in it.  I put mine in covered container with a bit of water or chicken broth or whatever and warm it on 50% power slowly.   That will keep the moisture in...instead of drying it out. Good Luck

Eggs and reheated chicken could be counted on to make me sick for the longest time.  Reheated chicken in particular is bad, sometimes even now.  I usually eat leftovers without reheating them.  Saves energy and doesn't cause the stomach upset so much.  It took me a long time to figure it out.  Most of the times I threw up or had the foamies were directly related to how quickly I ate.  The other times were fowl. This too shall pass.

Thanks for all of your comments! I will be careful with reheated meats- I am aware now that this could be a trend- it is hard identifying the problem sometimes ya know? Have a great day! Faith

Faith what works for you today may not work tomorrow.   reheated foods don't bother me.    It sounds to me like your eating too fast and not chewing enough.   take time between bites.   I couldn't  eat bread untoasted for two years, it got too mushy and stuck .    Linda

My sister suffered from the same thing...I do not want you to be alarmed but you may want to let your Dr. know...The opening to my sisters small pouch healed and closed up and she could not keep anything down...with a small procedure they reopened it and she has not had this problem anymore.

One thing to consider, I've heard many people say they couldn't tolerate chicken for quite a while.  It took me six months before I could keep it down.  You should also consider the possibility of a stricture.  I had one at three months out.  When I started having trouble keeping my protein drinks down, I knew there was something wrong.  It's a very easy thing to take care of.

I know you did not eat alot of bread and rice but maybe you need to cut back on it. I did not eat any bread, rice or pasta until I was around 6 months out. I still dont eat steak or beef. I will salmon, tuna, talapia, or chicken if I have slow baked it or put it in the crock pot. And what everyone else said, chew ,chew, chew. I know it never took me 30minutes to eat but try to atleast chew as much as possible......Hope you feel better soon

I found out early that re heated meats were the devil for me.  It didn't matter if they seemed moist or not.   I quit eating reheated stuff as soon as I figured it out.  I will say that it's finally gotten better, but just recently. I can only eat bread if it's been toasted.  That really seems to help. It still seems that every day is a gamble.  You never know what will sit well and what won't. Hope things get better for you soon! Jenn
