No answers from Doctors??
Hi Everyone,
Here I am again with more ?'s; and maybe just venting frustrations! My family doc says call my surgeon; my surgeon does not follow up with his pat.'s.. You get turned over to the nurses, PA, and Nut. I am so sick of not getting a straight answer or resolutions! I am 7 months post RNY. I thought I was doing quite well until recently. In the last 3 weeks I have not had any energy, dizziness, whrilling spells; and just a sense of non general feeling well at all. This is very much affecting my life; and is causing me great depression now.
About a month ago I was diaginosised with low B-1, other B's, low vitamin D; and calcium. I began religiously taking my vitamins; and giving myself B-12 shots weekly. I have read that deficencies can cause permentant nerve damage! I am taking this very seriously.. Just wondering if any of you have dealth with this; and what your case entailed??
My family Dr diaginosed me Mon with a UTI and gave me Cipro! I don't believe a UTI can cause the syptoms I have! He also gave me a pill for dizziness that isn't working very well either. I did not go through this surgery to let my new found health go to He$$ either! I need to find a doctor in the flint, lapeer or close area that knows how to treat bariatric pts! I can not go to Dr Manassini in G.B. because he is not on Blue Cross ppo; and we had a bad experiance in the hospital with him. I am just looking for a little help, some answers and guidance.
I was feeling so good for a while; and now it is sliding down hill! I am trying everything I can including upping my protein. Please :help: me!!!

Called HBC today and made an appt. for next Tues. afternoon. I am going to get answers!! I am ticked off and tried of being pushed off into other directions that don't really cut it. My family doc gave me Antivert for dizziness; well duh.. I said that only masks my syptoms; and it is not working all the time. Still looking for help and input. Thanks, Judy R
I hope you get some answers soon. You are right to not ignore your symptoms and to seek other means to get answers. Keep us posted and take care of yourself in the mean time. It sounds like you are doing all you can do until the doctors figure out what is going on. Best of luck to you...

I am so proud of you for not letting these doctors just blow you off. The best thing anyone can do is be proactive in their health care. I wish I had answers for you.
One thing that I did read while I was researching was that if you are having these symptoms from the vit def. and it was found out immediately and you upped your vitamin intake that everything should be reversable. That is definitely something positive to think about.
You are doing everything possible to reverse the deficiency and when you come to see all will be back to normal. Just make sure you get your Iron levels checked if you didn't get it done in the last bloodwork that was done.

Girl - I am soooo sympathetic to your situation!!! It's like listening to myself a year and a half ago and then again just 9 mths ago.
My surgeon IGNORED my problems, I went to him or to ER FOUR times and each time he just blew me off, he refused to even come down to ER and see me after I drove almost 2 hours to his freakin' hospital!!!!! Then one day I had a stroke (or it was thought to be a stroke). Looooong, story - but here's my two cents worth for you.
Number ONE: Don't go to Lapeer Regional Hospital for ANYTHING!!! I tell you what, I spent days and days there only to be told they didn't know what was wrong and said that I needed to get myself into a bigger more qualified hospital - then they freakin' released me!!!! They won't transfer out of their network. I was WAY TOO ILL to even fight them, and my dh wasn't assertive enough to help me either.
Number TWO: Low levels doesn't always mean just take more pills. I found out that I had Beri Beri - a rare but deadly disease from lack of nutrition and vitamins. I had been taking my vits!! But my body just would abosrb them.
Number THREE: Don't stop fighting until you get the help you need. I know that it's almost impossible to fight when you're so sick. Trust me, I've been on TPN through a pic line, I've had docs tell me I needed a feeding tube and a reversal surgery (and I almost did just that) I was severly anemic and had to go through Iron infusions. My hemotologist told me he sees this all the time in wls patients. Those who have this problem just don't absorb so it's a waste to keep taking iron. He said I'd need probably two iron infusions per year for the rest of my life..... about now I'm thinking I had this surgery to GET healthy!!!! I got to the point that I was in bed for 14 - 17 hours per DAY!!!!! Serious, I could do nothing. I had neuropathy so bad in my arms that I could no longer drive! I was pretty darn bad off. But you can't quit - keep fighting!!!
I don't know any good doctors in Lapeer that have specialized with wls patients (I grew up in Lapeer). I ended up going to a different wls surgeon myself! You could try that. Just call and tell them your surgeon's follow isn't there and would they take you. It took me a few doctors before I found one that would take me.
I pray supernatural health to take over your body!!! For energy and joy to flood through you today!!
