Question for you MMPC WLS veterans
Just wondering what I can expect from having surgery at the MMPC?? Dr. Foote will be doing the sleeve on my on Wednesday, January 23rd!!
If you have had surgery at MMPC, how was the facility? How was the staff? Is there a place my hubby can sleep while he stays w/ me?
Anything and everything you can remember about your stay, good or bad, is appreciated! Thank you!!

I like your screen name.....hopeful...that's what I was up until Oct 23 when I had surgery with Dr. Foote. He did a wonderful job and I have no complaints.
For the hospital, my stay was not awful. Sometimes kinda noisy though (I was right next to the nurses station). The staff was so kind, I couldn't have asked for nicer people to care for me after surgery.
As for the hubby, I am not sure. I think that there is a place he can stay for a reasonalbe rate if you are from far away.....
I wish you luck in your journey.
P.S. you may want to take some chap stick.....that was the only thing that I needed that I didn't take.
It will cost $15 a night for your hubby to stay at Blodgett. The room is very nice with a nice bed and a tv. There might even be a fridge but I'm not sure. Dr. Foote did my surgery and I am so happy I picked him. My stay at Blodgett was good. The nurses were all nice and helpful (maybe because they weren't real busy at that time). They seemed very knowledgeable about how to handle our problems and had lots of patience.

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Great news for you!!
My HOS stay was AWESOME!! Well as awesome as it can get from having a life changing surgery. I just LOVED the nurses. THey were there for everything, everytime I buzzed them. No matter how many minutes was inbetween buzzes. There were only a few other patients when I was in there, maybe that is why they were in my room at my every beck N call...Trisha was my favorite Nurse. She was just wonderful, she worked 3rd shift. Of course every hour on the hour they were coming in and checking this and that but I can sleep through everything, so really did not bother me.
As for your hubby.. I dont know.. I stayed alone.. did not want anyone there with me... I just slept 22 hours out of the first day and about 20 hours the second day. THey had to keep waking me up to get my liquids in. The first night when you get some ice chips, it is HEAVEN!!! Your mouth is so nasty dry, and the ice feels soooo good!!
You will be in good hands with Dr Foote, and with the Staff at Blodgett. The thing is, all of them people want to work in that wing, or they would not be there. It is a bariartic wing ONLY... that was nice too.... Keep us updated on ever thing!
BTW, how did you like Dr Foote? Must have like him alot, you stayed with him... I LOVE HIM!!! :O)
Thanks Jodi!! I am SO excited, and YES...I LOVE DR. FOOTE!! He's been great from just the few times I have seen him!
I sure hope I can sleep as many hours as you did the first couple days! That must make the recovery time seem to zip by! And I'm glad to hear the nurses are really nice!
Thanks again, Jodi, and I will keep ya posted!

First of all let me say that I have absolutely NO complaints about Dr. Foote (other than the fact that you will only see him once in the office after the surgery).
MMPC overall is good....but they are a busy office and they assume everyone knows everything and sometimes will forget that this is the first time WE have been through this. I have also had some problems with office staff---so my suggestion is to be sure you get specific information from someone and be sure to clarify it with someone else! :)
The hospital stay was a hospital stay--it was the first time I was ever hospitalized so I don't have anything to compare it to. It was somewhat slow when I was there so I got my own room. I liked the fact that we were all gastric patients. I only had trouble with one nurse--but she wasn't my primary nurse---all the primary nurses were all very nice and supportive!
I can't attest to your hubby staying...there is a "family lounge" on the floor that supplies snacks/coffee--but of course we can't partake! :) I do second the need for chapstick! Boy that would have come in handy!!
I hope everything goes well for you!
Because we were over an hour from home, my husband was allowed to stay in my room. I was so glad to have him there because I didn't want to bother the nurses.
My only complaint with the hospital was that I had a young male nurse during the night. I felt so uncomfortable having him help me get my binder on that I almost died. He seemed to be "grossed out" by my super huge belly. He wasn't real responsive to my needs either. I don't think he is still there, at least that is what we were told one year ago today, for my husband's surgery.
My husband and I had Dr. Kemmeter and loved him. We have also met Dr. Foote and thought he was great too.
You will be in good hands with MMPC.
Good luck to you,
Jenn
