OT - GR Ladies - Anyone use Large & Lovely Consignment shop?
About 2 blocks or so north of Leonard on the west side of Plainfield. It is a pretty decent shop - small, but lots of clothes (size 16 and up). My girlfriend lives up off of 3 mile and happened to see it one day when I was pregnant with my twins. So I went there to get maternity clothes - or what ever would fit. I got 2 brand new 6X t-shirts...that just barely fit at the end of my pregnancy, but I wear as night shirts now - and some other really good deals....AND now they are getting them back. :D I have about 4 tubs of clothes and I am debating on my wedding dress. I may eventually just Craig's List that since I paid $100 just to have it boxed and preserve packed. I don't want to take it out of the box and not have it sell.
Out of my own clothes, I'm keeping a few items other than the things I am wearing now, but it is hard to know what to keep. I plan on utilizing that place for down-sizing after surgery....I just better not buy back anything I am taking in. LOL I want to take in as much as I can now since it takes a few months to get in there to drop off....at least the first time....but I think that it applies to new or existing selling customers.
I have bought and sold there before. They are pretty picky about what they take in (or so it seems when I am selling there)...
I would make sure things are as wrinkle free as possible. They don't give you the money immediately. It is a true consignment and you get it at the end of your "selling period", plus the clothes that didnt sell, you get back.
They do have a few wedding dresses there, but not sure how they sell. I would ask them when you drop your other items off.
Good luck!!!
Thanks for the info Kelly. The whole trip was a bust. My appt was at 10:00 am. I was there just before that time. 10:00 came and went. I sat there for 20 minutes. I called the store. The recording says that they are open form 12 (noon) til 4 pm Tues-Friday. WTH? So I left a message that I drove 40 miles and that I would be in GR for a little while so they could call me if they got in soon. I called after 12 and the lady apologized that she had over looked me. I was prepared to give her a piece of my mind, but she went on to tell that she'd been in the hospital and was on restricted hours....plus apologized like 10 more times. I felt bad for her. And for the 5 tubs of clothes that are still in the back of my van.
I have to call her again today to set up another appt, but I will make sure I pick the items over. She said that I could bring all 5 tubs in since they were in my van and they'd go thru them to select what they wanted, but I was already back home. She said that they normally only accept 50 times on hangers. I will heed your advice though and have them ironed (HA HA - I couldn't even type that without laughing)....we'll just say less wrinkled. :D
Hi Gwen, What a small world! I know exactly where that shop is although I have never been there. I live in the North Park community within the far northeast quandrant of the city of GR. I have thought about taking some clothing in to a consignment shop too but wasn't sure I wanted to deal with any hassles. I do donate a lot to Goodwill and have also purchased clothing there due to my ever changing size. Let us know when you will be having your surgery. Do you know yet what surgeon you will have? I had James Foote who is also with MMPC. Best of luck. Pam
