Topic: What is the Why is your life that gets you through the Hows of wls?
Good Morning Michigan,

We all have a million reasons for wanting WLS.  But out there, there is one motivator, the true motivator that drives us, our Why.  For me, my Why is my children.  I have a feeling this one may be popular for moms and dads.  For without them, my drive wouldn't be as hard, as determined.  With this Why, the How's of wls become a little easier.  The How of eating tiny meals of boring yogurt day in and day out for months.  The exercise day after day that seems to show no change to your body forever.  The frustration of all the changes mentally and physically....  But somehow those Hows are just a bit more palatable now with a Why preceding it.

Tell us what your Why is, don't be embarressed.  What drove you to wls, to take that leap of faith?

WOW i am sorry I never got anything after completing the survey! except the 25.00 gift cirtifacate email for Amazon.com. If you joined surveymonkey you may need to go to the bottom of the one of the emails and select the opt out to discontinue any further contact from them. keep me posted and I will remove the post if it causes any others problems .

Hi Everyone:
I went to weight loss  sem, in Holland few months ago,  but  at  time  had different  insurance  and  they wanted  the  6 month thing.  So my work  has  2  insurances and  i  switched, first of  year,  on  Jan 11   went  to  Grand  Haven ( He  also has  practice  there now)  and  saw Dr Sandy on  the 11Th. We set up a sleep study did  on 16Th, So test on heart on 19 and 20Th.  Then went  back on Jan 25Th saw doctor Foote, He  did  a scope of tummy in a.m. then saw in afternoon in office in Grand Haven, and he cleared me surgery.  Went  threw insurance  with  flying  color (YES!) and going  to have  the VSG on Feb 29Th.  I  can  hardly  wait.  I also  saw  the behaviorist after Dr. Foote on Jan 25Th, she also cleared me :).  I go on Feb 15Th for Pre-op/dietitian,  said would be about 4 hours.  Also start my liquid diet next  day.  Then Feb 22 labs,  then following  Wednesday (Feb. 29Th, yes yes my  day) very excited.  Gosh  been  trying  to  get  this  done  for  few  years  and now it,  all came  together like clock  work.  Everyone  in office has  been  so  wonderful  and  helpful.
So  if anyone has  any  great things ,  even  bad to  watch out for  and  all the  things  that  I  may  run into  come  and  let me know.  Really  excited  to meet  all of you.

Topic: Have my date for surgery Feb 29
Hi  Everyone:
New to this,  very excited have  my surgery date.  Feb 29, 2012.   Laughing  can only have a anniversary every four years,  cracking up  go figure.
I have  been wanting  this  for  while,  my old employer  was  self insurance.  and  they  would not  pay for, I worked  there  many years,  but  in  2009  with times in Michigan and like  many others  had my job cut. So I had  to start again, I went out  and yes  found another job, totally different  then  what  I  was  doing, but  I  have managed.  Been hard but making the best of it .  But  you know  they  say  everything happens  for a reason,  well guess what  I  am  having  surgery now.  And  lets  say it  made it  all worth while.  I am having  the  sleeve, Dr Foote is my surgeon and  he is based out of  Grand Rapids, but now  also has practice in  Grand Haven, MI  so having  there. Just about 20 minutes from home.
I am  out  here trying  to  learn  what  to  expect.   Does  anyone have  any  suggestions.  I am  trying to be proactive.  Hoping  to make a few new friends  and someone  to  talk with  out our  journeys.

Carol
Even if you didn't have WLS, you could still be apart of a group whose goals are weight loss.  Best wishes and do stay in touch!

No I'm not scheduled yet.  I am waiting on a sleep study.  Even if I have the surgery, I'm having a DS and I had my gallbladder removed last year so the surgeon says he might not be able to do it if there's too much scar tissue on the duodenum.  That means I won't know if I had the surgery until after I wake up, so I'd hate to schedule anything before I know for sure.

Hi Cheryl,

It's been a long time since I've been on the boards and just happened to check out the MI board tonight.  Congrats on the plastics and I hope your recovery goes really well!  Sounds like it was a good thing you had help!

Jan - hope your recovery is going well too!!  Funny how you two had it done so close together!

Take care, both of you!
