Well I will quickly summ up my last posting. I have been being treated for Migraines for 2 years no relief.. so I changed PCP's she treated me also for migranies for a BIt then sent me to a nerologist.. he did I MRO for a MASS . I was referred to a nero surgeon in Miland ( he was suppose to be good but to ME he was a QUACK) so I went back to my local nelogist he sent me to the U of M..
so U of M says I NEED 2 surgeons so the surgerons are getting together to get me a date. the MASS is between my 2 caroid arteries with the brain stem on the back side.. near the optic nerve. so off to the Dominoe Farms I went for pre op testing.. so now tomorrow I get the surgery dat. Surgery will be a MINIMUM of 6 hours but they figure all day.
I will be in the hospital 2-3 days BUT if the brain stem leaks then 5-6 days..
so there's the scoop..
OH the surgeons at U of M were wonderful!!

Hi. This past Tuesday I had my surgery. I was released Thursday. I think overall I'm doing ok. I was totally unprepared for the morphine migraine. Pain control immediately following the procedure was really tough. I can't do the liquid vitamins. I instantly want to throw up...its like miracle grow. Broth, creamy soups, farina, yogurts, s/f puddings, protein drinks...all are going down ok. The gas is irritating and so is the constipation from the pain meds. That sucks because I was hoping not to have to take it as often as I have. My most painful area is directly under my right breast, its super painful when bending or getting around the bed. Tonight I have a larger pillow under that spot, those have helped. I ambulate fine. I'm itching for cooked Veggies, I know...coming soon. I'm not sure if I like milk anymore mostly cook with it. I have lactaid, but understand if I'm not hopping to give it a try in light of gassy issues.
I'm not complaining. Much of this I expected from what I learned on the boards and extensive talks with the doctors. It's different. I have two questions: how long will he stomach discomfort from the surgery last, and has anyone else experienced problems sleeping after? It's after 3:30am and I'm still awake.
Thanks for reading!

Topic: RE: Pre-Surgery Diet Help
I don't remember eating cream of wheat on the Unjury pre-surgical diet. I was eating oatmeal every day and I added spenda and cinnamon.
On the post surgery liquid diet it says cream of wheat and I thought it was pretty yucky, so I ate coco wheats instead. :-)

Topic: RE: Eating real food again
I was on liquids for 2 weeks, purees for the next 6 and then soft foods for another 2 weeks. Fruits and veggies don't come in until later, although I could have pureed canned veggies and fruit in the pureed stage.

Congrats on your success and your new surgery! I am so happy for you that your recovery is going well. I usually see people saying that its the most painful recovery. It scares me!!! I hope I find the $$ and the guts to get the tummy/chest thing done someday as well but for now...no way! LOL I am a HUGE chicken so it sok that I cant afford it just yet. :) I am not so far out from my wls yet either so maybe in a year I will feel less afraid.
Topic: RE: How long did process take?
It is VERY VERY different for each practice and insurance company. Some places only do a few surgeries per month and others do many per day. Some insurance companies do not require pre approval and others do. Just hang in there! MOST peoples journeys are pretty fast! :)

Hey, I know Dr.Kia! I'd been fighting for the DS for a long, long time but didnt have proper insurance for it and I almost had a gastric bypass with Dr. Kia. He was a really nice man and I felt good being there. I decided to wait it out hoping I'd find the insurance I needed and luckily for ME it worked out BUT Dr. Kia and that whole practice seems like a genuinely good place and I wish you the very best ! :) You can fix this and take control again just believe it, ok? :) Have you ever done the 5 day pouch test? google it! :) NEVER EVER give up on yourself!! :)

Not too sure how your plan works, but I have BC/BS of MI, and they do not pre-approve surgaries. (this is in my case) I went to the seminar Jan 9, 2010 and had my surgery on May 4, 2010, however, I was on the cancellation list for every appointment (the dr had a cancellation and I got a call, to be there) It works if you are flexible. Probably because the surgeon is so busy, but my original consultation appt wasn't scheduled until May 28, 2010, I ended up having my surgery almost 3 weeks before that Like I said, this was just my situation. Another co-worker started with her seminar in July of 2009 and had surgery in December 2009. Hope this helps
