“Not many of us are living at our best. We linger in the lowlands because we are afraid to climb the mountains. The steepness and ruggedness dismay us, and so we stay in the misty valleys and do not learn the mystery of the hills. We do not know what we lose in our self indulgence. What glory awaits us if only we had the courage for the mountain climb. What blessing we should find if only we would move to the uplands of God.? JRM
This week I have finally started to cook and put things in the freezer and have things ready in the frig.
1 1/2 pounds of chicken breast cooked in crock pot on high for 3 hours with vegetable broth and Mrs. Dash seasoning. Made 10 - 1 1/2 oz baggies of chicken to freeze and put in frig. 75 calories/ 12 protein
1 pound turkey bacon baked in the oven on cookie sheet, even did a double layer, turned out great. 2 pieces in each snack baggie, froze some and some in frig. Great snack. 50 Calories / 4 Protein
9 2oz beef patties fried up (using water and extra lean beef) and in freezer/frig 95 Calories / 14 Protein
Love Greek Yogurt, cheese sticks, Protein Chips (buy at Grand Health Partners in GR), Hummus and carrot sticks, pea pods and ranch dip (come in snack packs in produce section) ate my first egg salad yesterday, one egg, 1 Tbs Miracle whip, it was okay, but not as good as I remember.

I remember those days, seems like a lifetime ago. but it doesn't take much for me to remember when I ate too much or too fast. I get sick. and it hurts. I still have to remind myself 5 yrs out to take small bites and eat slow. just remember to do that. I cant attest to having less issue than a sleever but everyone is different. its all a learning curve. for the longest time i never felt hunger. now i feel hunger and i tend to graze. try to get 5 mins of walking in after you eat just to move the gas around... break your pills in half.
thanks for posting. its good to see what newbies are going thru and i hope we can assist.

do you have kids you want to cook for? i know its hard to do that. but sometimes you have to do chicken legs and stuff with maybe a light coating of shake n bake, and make baked beans, just the plain ones, i think pork and beans is what they are called on the can, maybe add some bacon to it and some s/f maple syrup. that way you get some carbs for the kids but protein for you.
also, my fav is pizza night. use tortilla shells, precook them so they get a bit toasty. then use pizza quick sauce and cheese and fixins and let the kids make their own, put them in the broiler to melt the stuff together. they should like that.
soft tacos are good. they do make low carb tortilla shells iffin you want them. i hate them personally. i would serve refried beans loaded with cheddar cheese melted on top too! AND BACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Topic: RE: where do I go from here?
ok, well, don't give up. Sometimes, you need to fudge the answers on the test. I was actually prompted by the psychiatrist at my clinic on how to answer. Some are in it for the money. I was pretty happy about that in my case. That being said, do you want to take a chance on another clinic and 'passing' their test? What wls clinic does your Dr. recommend? What I would do is to find a psychiatrist that is affiliated with the hospital that the clinic is at i.e. UofM or Henry Ford and use his letter of approval per se as an approval for your stable condition and ok to get surgery and your ability to follow the rules post surgery. Sometimes, if you are up front with the clinic about mental health issues and that you have a long term relationship with your own dr. they will respect that and take their medical opinion as their approval. also, just to clarify, borderline personality disorder is not the same as bipolar, two different conditions. that is very important. and in one session, that cannot be determined, imho. it took YEARS to determine my condition.

I am sorry you are going through so much! Insurance company's dont make anything easy that is for sure then you add in slow moving Dr. offices and that just makes it worse. Did your PCP office say they would fax over the information for you? Your Dr. does not have to be there for that. As far as the "self-doubt" goes, we all went through that I would bet! When you do get a date you will be so thrilled, but then the doubt will come back even worse! It is very scarey the unknown of any type of surgery. No matter what type of WLS you have they all come with risk and possible complication of some sort. Just inform yourself as much as you can. Use this forum and any support groups you may have available to you! Best of luck to you on your journey. Keep us posted on how things go.

I'm getting impatient--Mini-rant coming--sorry, I don't know where else to vent. First of all, because of my PCP'error in not recording all the information relating to my 6 month insurance pre-approval doctor supervised diet (he just recorded my weight at my visits but didn't put down any information about my diet, exercise, ect) BCBS made me do the 6 months over. I finished that 6 months about 10 days ago, making sure at each visit it was put into my records what I was eating, how much I was walking, how I felt about the whole thing. 2 day before that I had the psych-eval ( Turns out I'm NOT nuts !!) and I signed a release with the PCP's office and they said they would send my records to the surgeons office. I'm on my way--I thought. I haven't heard anything from the surgeon's office so today I called my PCP--they haven't even sent my records yet !!! After the first 6 month delay thing you would have thought they would have made a special effort to help me out. I just want to get a date, have the surgery and get on with life. The longer I've had to wait the more "self-doubt" talk is working on me--the old "what if I'm too old (I'll be 67 next month)", "what if I have really severe complications" and on and on and on. I'm really upset with my PCP's office and I can't even complain to him because he went on vacation the day after my last appointment and won't be back for another 2 weeks. I know this is probably something you can't give advice for but it helps being able to talk about it. Thanks for letting me take up space on this forum !!

Hi Jo,
While I do not live in your area any longer and have not for many years, I am from Hale! Im glad you found this site and are posting with us! Congratulation on your loss so far
! You have a long distance to drive to your Dr. as I do as well. I travel 3 hours to see mine! But it is worth the travel for a good Dr. Good luck to you in your journey and hope to continue to hear from you!

Hi, my surgery was different than most as it is fairly new. But I have found that some days I have hunger that doesnt seem to end while other days I am forcing myself to eat. Not sure if it is really just 'head' hunger or not, or just what 'normal' people always deal with. Before surgery I never let myself even get hungry! I was always eating and eating way to fast
! This is something I am still working on as well. The one thing I have learned and been able to stick with pretty well is to not drink with meals. I notice that I stay fuller MUCH longer if I dont drink while I eat. Seems the liquid washes the food out of my stomach if I do. I am been lucky to not have any pain or vomiting (so far, fingers crossed) and hope it stays that way. Sorry you have those issues! Glad you started posting here as well. I also just decided 'what the heck' Im gonna post.

Thanks for the sites! I dont think I have beenn to any of those. I will have to check them out. I want to work on meals we can eat as a family. So far it has been that I make a meal for myself and then I make a meal for the rest of the family. Not the way I want to keep doing things thats for sure!
