Just thoughts........

Just me sitting around thinking (yep! Danger!).  After these articles that I have read and posted, I have been pondering.  When in search of my own journey for WLS, the goal was to have the surgery and lose weight.  I did whatever just to get "approved" and start losing.  I remember hearing: no alcohol~bad, take your vits~a must, and so forth.  Now, I am the first to admit, I didn't care I just wanted the surgery and I came in the name of "for my health".  How ironic that I HAD the surgery for our "health" but post op after 6 months or so I started to slip into bad habits (ie: not faithful on vits, drinking, not making the healthiest choices in foods, ect) AND I still maintained that I was doing this "for my health"!  What a crock!  I will now fess up and tell the truth and own it! I did this to get skinny .  Well, I will now also say that I learned the hard way that I AM THE ONLY person who can CHOSE to take care of this body and make healthy choices.  I cannot blame anyone but my self.  I will also admit that since December I have been faithful in taking my vits, calcium, Vit D, Omega 3's, protein, water and exercise.  And I will now admit I wish I would NEVER have tested the limits and just did what my doctors told me from the get go!!!  As the honeymoon phase is over it is tougher and tougher!! HEAR MY PLEA!!  If you chose WLS: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE follow ALL of the rules from the beginning!!  This is a LIFESTYLE change FOR LIFE!! DON'T put your health in DANGER!! I am just saying this so that your journey may be as smooth as possible!  If you fell from the rules PICK YOURSELF UP!!  DO THE HARD WORK!!  GET BACK ON TRACK!!  The rewards are sooo worth it and so are you! Hugs and Love!

Well said doll. I think anyone who says they ONLY did this for health is being untruthful with themselves. even if health is a BIG one.. or the MAIN one... or just in the top two LOL we all wanted to look better too. And you know what? call me vain but I don't think theres anything wrong with that. I think we're taught to take pride in how we look from a young age... I know I was. I should also point out that when I'm checking out the new bod (clothed of course LOL) in the mirror... I'm thinking hmmm I'm looking pretty good... NOT hmmmm I'm looking pretty healthy. Very good post Hugs L.

Thanks Sandie,  That was just the kick in the arse that I needed. I did do this to be healthy, but, yeah, I can admit it, I wanted to look decent again too, maybe I can say that was for my mental health?? either way, I printed this, and will keep it with me, because sometimes I just need to own up and admit that maybe I am making a wrong choice, and it may lead me down a road I dont want to go!! Thank you
Betsy

Hey Hon!  No matter our reasons for doing WLS the fact is that we have done it and there are special needs that we have to do NOW for our health.  And yep!  It all comes down to the choices that WE make!  I am proud of you! Nip it in the Bud NOW!!!   Love and Hugs!

I did it to be thin.. period it was for vanity... now though I see how much more healthy I am.

At the time I didnt think I was unhealthy.. I was just fat. Of course looking back I see how wrong I was about that.     So whichever hon' if its cos of health first and a nice side effect was being thin or thin and getting healthy it doesnt matter.  We got there. I think if most are honest with themselves.. and Im not saying all.  A big reason is vanity. Good post.. and very honest..

Thank you Sandie for being so honest. This is just what we need to be reminded of.  I try very hard to follow the rules...I know there are reasons for the surgeons wanting things done a certain way. We are only hurting ourselves when we go against their wishes. The rule I feel that I break is that every once in awhile I have a glass of wine. If I go out dancing with friends I can sip on the same glass all evening. I just keep water by me at all times. I don't always have wine...sometimes jus****er. I am not putting anyone down for drinking. What they decide for themselves is their own business. I did this surgery for both reasons...to be healthier and to look better. I am not going to blow it now!! This has not been the easiest ride but so worth it!! It takes alot of discipline and and hard work all the time. Love ya....connie d
