Anyone needing to cure diabetes, but doesn't need to lose weight?
Hanging out on the DS board, I learned a while back that there was hope with the DS surgery for people who suffered from diabetes, but did not need to lose weight. (The DS has two surgical components to it, so only 1 is used for this.)
Well, this morning, thanks to PattyL for posting the link on the DS board, GMA covered it.
Here's the link in case you're interested in learning more...

Remember, even if you share this info with someone you know who struggles with diabetes, you could just be part of their cure by sharing this with them. I personally have told two dear older men about this and it is not a procedure their endocrinologists have ever mentioned...but now they have hope and are looking into the procedure and insurance.
Have a great day everyone!
Awesome article, thanks for sharing, Amy!
I've gotta say, tho, the people who post comments following articles like that show an amazing lack of common sense. To post their personal contact info, thinking a doctor is going to read it and save them? They should follow your example by doing their own homework. And the flamers who probably haven't had to deal with the topic first hand? Good grief. Sad.
Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
There is also a study at the Fairview / U of M - RNY Vs Medical management for low BMI patients, to see how surgery affects diabetes, it's not the DS,but it's close to home for people who need it...
it's at the very bottom of this page
