Negative people

Robyn,  As many other's have said - you aren't doing this for your MIL, but for yourself, your health and the rest of YOUR life, not hers.  Take her comments for as positive as you can (she cares, is concerned, etc) and move on from them.  We all have those people in our lives, no matter what it is that we are going to do - from coloring our hair to having WLS - and we have to deal with them in the best possible way.  As you come across people like this, you will have to deal with them as best as you can, and the best way is either with honesty or humor (or a combination of both, like Pam's response about carrying the co-worker's hubby up a flight of steps).  You will find a way to deal with them.  I am much like Kristina - I am very open about it and people are very, amazingly, open to me being open about it, but that is what I am comfortable with.  You will have to find your own confort zone about discussing WLS.

Just remember, that this board is a place where you can discuss things like this, and anything else that is on your mind (WLS related or not), and SOMEONE here will have advice for you if not an opinion on it! One thing you might want your MIL to do is get involved in the Friends and Family forum here - it is for friends and family members of WLS patients so they can get information from other friends and family members of other WLS patients and see that they are not alone in their fears, anxieties, etc.  My (at the time) BF was on there for a while and he got a lot of GREAT information.
