2008 Gala Garage Sale
Hey Peach- I completely understand what you are saying. I felt like a whiney brat posting my thought on this, but I felt like I couldn't be the only one. I was so excited about attending this year, but it did lose some of it's appeal when I heard there could be people in costumes and casual attire. I know, I know, we should all feel welcome to come as we can because not all of us can afford to go out and buy fancy gowns, etc... But I feel like some of the charm is taken away by the costumes. If I want to dress up in a costume, I can hit any number of bars or community centers for their halloween parties. And you know what? I love halloween cause I love getting dressed up in some weird costume. I just wanted a formal night, like what I had read about last year. I guess I need to grow up and suck it up, but right now I am allowing myself to feel pouty about it. Do you think there will be halloween decorations and all that? You know, I do appreciate the effort and time people put into this event, and similar events. I guess I'm just a proponant of keeping things the same if there isn't a problem with the old way. Maybe there was a problem with the old way that I'm not aware of
. If enough of us sign up and go formal, and there are no halloween decorations, I may consider going. I want to feel pretty and princessy for once in my life! It would be so much fun to go and have my hair done, and maybe get a pedi and a mani. Wahwahwah, right.

It sounds like a good many want to do formal so don't not go because there are other choices of attire. If I can make it, I definitely plan to dress formal....I don't care if half the crowd is dressed in costume. lol! Formal is an option, so I'll take it. Why don't a group of those who want to go formal go together?

Jean (the person who posted this) is my Aunt. I just spoke to her a little bit ago and she said last year, about 90% of those who attended were dressed formal and it'll probably be the same turnout this year as well. There were just some who said it would be fun to dress as Scarlet O'Hara since it's close to Halloween so I think those dressing "in costume" is more costume ball type, not witches and goblins costume. Also, they say that casual atire is welcome as well because there are some who go who are pre-op, and as we all know full well, a lot of us did not want to dress formal when we were at our high weights, so casual atire is sensitive and welcoming to the pre-op people who would like to go for the support. :) But, the majority who attend like to dress formal.
Hope that makes sense. I really hope I can go as well and if I can, I will be all dolled up in formal duds! :)
