I have to start my liquid diet on the 29th and it seems like every day that goes past I find myself having a hard time not to eat everything in site thinking this will be the last time I will be able to eat this JUNK again. I know I have posted and talked to others about this in the past couple weeks but it seems to be getting worse. Does anyone have any ideas on how you dealt with this if you were experiencing the same fight? I have lost about 5 lbs now and need to lose 10 Right now I would give anything to have one last  pizza. Sorry for venting.

You've come to the right place!  Those of us post op understand the struggle.  YOU CAN DO THIS!!!  Keep your eye on the prize!  Do you have any hobbies that you can do whenever you are thinking of food?  Do whatever you can to distract your mind.  Focus on how losing that 5 lbs is a HUGE success and brings you THAT much closer.  Think of this as a challege that YOU WILL PROVE YOU CAN DO!!!  Think of the reward that will come from losing the 10LBS.  Come here and talk.  Go to coffees and/or support groups to get that extra pat on the back.

Also, as far as the pizza, trust me, you WILL be able to have it when you are further post op.  Don't think about what you "can't" have but focus on what you will acheive and the success that follows!

Hang in there!!  YOU CAN DO IT!!!

It may sound cheesy... but a little 'guided imagery" so to speak... works for me. Or how about just my experience?

I always tell people that I WISH I wouldn't have done the last supper thing before my liquid diet. I was so stubborn then and just wanted to have my last fill... but the fact is, when you lose more weight before surgery (in my experience) you lose so much FASTER and easier after surgery... because your stomach isn't recooperating from the hell you put it through during your "last supper" and you also took time to practice the habits BEFORE surgery.

I think a lot of people fear that they'll never eat those foods again, so they binge before surgery. Maybe make a promise to yourself that you will never deprive yourself after surgery and that the idea is to stop eating everything, but it's to stop eating A LOT of everything. :)

It's a tough stuggle though... but what works for me is to get the bad stuff OUT of the house.. and to really concentrate on how good you'll feel in size 34 pants! :)

Okay, this is how I would personally handle it.  Just me, imperfect me.  (And I pretty much DID this myself in April of '07!)

I would decide on ONE FINAL PIG OUT.  Choose your favorite thing, and just go for it one "last" time.  (For me, it was snow crab legs!)  You'll get that urge, that CRAVING out of your system, and chances are you won't totally blow your pre-op loss with that one meal!   You may even be disgusted with yourself, which will bolster your determination to knock the LD out of the ballpark!

I'm sure some will be tempted to spank me for that, but dang it, we didn't get obese by having fabulous self control.  Giving in one "last" time isn't a sin, it's a farewell to our former habits.

You WILL be able to eat most anything again - just not such obscene quantities!  And you'll APPRECIATE IT so much more AFTER WLS!!!

But, do it sooner than later.  This Friday or Saturday if you decide to do it.  Then COMMIT YOURSELF 110% to your liquid diet!!!

And hey, I'm just in Hanover.  I'm a Dunn Bros. *****  If you wanna meet sometime for a cuppa, give me a holler, I'd be happy to join you if I can!!!

Darla -- totally agree with the "ONE FINAL PIG OUT".  Didn't we used to celebrate this with upcoming LD's to say good luck?  Wonder why we don't do that any more?  Maybe we can start a new once a month "PIG OUT" (like that happens after WLS) to show the pre-ops that you REALLY CAN EAT IT AGAIN!!!!!

Dude, we ALL had the same struggle -- and anyone who says they didn't isn't being truthful!!!  Personally, my final meal was two weeks long -- the hubby and I went to all MY favorite restaurants to eat before starting the liquid diet.  Some ended the "purge" before the liquid diet, some not until they had to start the liquid diet.  I stopped two days before the liquid diet because I was sick of going out.  I know of one person who put herself on the liquid diet three weeks early because she was sooooo ready.

Unfortunately, it is your brain that you need to convince that you will be able to eat it again.  No pre-op believes it..........but you can eat it again but you won't be able to eat as much or you get sick.  You just have to wrap your head around that, try to believe that 2 tablespoons WILL fill you up after surgery, and try your best.

I would only caution you that there have been a couple of people in the past month who had their surgery postponed because they did not keep weight off or lose what they needed to before their final weigh in  -- talk about a bummer and inconvenience.

Good luck!!!!

First of all - venting is welcome on the board - we all have been where you are!

You need to have your food funeral - say goodbye for now - for now is the key words here - you will be able to have pizza again - ok so maybe you won't eat the whole pizza and maybe you won't eat the crust - but you will be able to eat it and taste it again.

For me - i have found that some foods I thought I would never be able to eat again - either they aren't as good as I remember or aren't worth getting sick over.

You are at a great turning point my friend - you are seeing change on the horizon - and it is scary - but you know what- I am here to tell you the other side is worth it.

We are here to support you - Yay You for making this decision!  Yay You for choosing to be healthy! Yay You for asking for help when you need it!

You've gotten a lot of good advice from others, so I don't have much to add...but YOU can make it through this...BELIEVE that you can and you WILL!!!!  Good luck to you!!!

Hang in there.  We post-ops have all been exactly where you are.  I had planned to have a final fatty fest (i think that is what we used to call them) at Red Lobster (oh how I used to "love" those cheesy biscuits), but fate prevailed and I got the flu before my liquid diet started.  So much for the best laid plans, hmmm?  Maybe it was just my subconsious looking out for me.

By the way, I can still go to Red Lobster, and now I don't even want those little devils.  Crab legs and steamed veggies do the trick just fine.   As your relationship with food changes, you will find that you really don't "love" all those old food crutches you used to get through daily life.  As you become healthy, your whole outlook changes.   And I took the word never out of my vocabulary.   I will not say I will "never" have a cookie or some chocolate (just can't seem to get over my "love" of chocolate), but moderation is such a powerful word.  And your new tool will help you learn moderation.

P.S.  You will eat pizza again.  Hang in there and do not apologize for venting.  It's what we are all here for.   Thank goodness for this group of listeners who have all walked to walk.  We are here to walk with you.

DITTO!
I too ate....I did the "last pig out" for about 2 weeks or so before my LD....then during my LD I broke also (NOT RECOMMENDED) I had 2 olives and about 3 bites of a salad. You are human! You will make it through this and come out just fine. Think of the long term goal. Good luck and see you on the "other" side---the LOSER side!!
