Wow!  Great work.  I can only hope to be down 31 pounds a month after surgery.

You are doing awesome!  Keep up the great work.  You're doing what you're supposed to be doing.  Maybe tghe nutritionist was just having a bad day.

Hey!

I'm Abbott too... I know what you're saying about the pos-op visit. I was surprised I wasn't seeing Dr Schwartz @ follow-up but alot of depts are that way.. you only see your surgeon if something is wrong...

NUT can be a bit dry.. and sometimes I ask her things and I wonder if she even heard me ask.. I know what you're saying. I err on the lower side of cals.. so I can't answer that part for you. I was told by others in other NUT programs we shouldn't be eating more than 500 cals until 6 mons post op.. so who knows.. every program is different.

It could just be your body too.. you might be losing slow right now at the beginning.. anesthesia and whatever else.. and wham, next week could be flying by the seat of yoru pants.

Any questions you just ask us! and if you need to ***** about Abbott I know what you're saying! But they do care and are open to any question.

MARY! You are doing GREAT!

I would LOVE to be in your shoes! 31 pounds is awesome, and don't let the assembly line feeling at the doc get you down! I'm sorry they weren't more encouraging and supporting of how closely you've been following the plan! I would bet they don't see a lot of folks who are as good and actually follow the directions.

So I said it before and will say it again, be that poster child for the rest of us ready to start our journey! You're a RNY rockstar in my book!

Keep it up!

congrats on the weight loss, your visit sounds like a carbon copy of mine at 4 weeks.  I was not even down 30lbs (incl my 15 lbs pre surg wl), and they were all scratching their heads but no solid answers.

Some of the nuts and nurses are just desensitized....shame, but it happens everywhere.

I wish these programs had a cohesive idea about the amount of calories/carbs or serving sizes for post op patients, but they all seem to just fumble their way through it.  My Dr said 500 calories a day max, the nut FROM HIS OFFICE said that he doesn't know what he's talking about, and that 650 is more reasonable, and my sisters surgeon says not to count calories at all but rather to eat a specific portion size and to make sure the fat and sugar content is as low as possible.  See...three opinions from three professionals...all different.

Mary-
31 pounds gone.... what a great thing!!!!!

My mom is around your age... and had the same type of mobility problems that you have... her weight has been slow in coming off due to the fact that she can not exercise either... but it will come... dont worry about that!!!!

Right now your body is still adjusting... and may still be in "starvation" mode... some people take longer to move through that than others.... if that is what is happening then your body is trying to retain every ounce of everything so that it can live.... (it forgets that it has fat stored and can live off of that for a long time, or at least in my case hehe)  once your body bounces back... well then... just you watch... you will start droping so fast your head will spin.... and if not... then remember that slow and steady can win the race!

Just keep doing what you are doing and it WILL happen!

And we are all here if you need a cheerleader!  (always wanted to be one when growing up... just never wanted to wear those skimpy little outfits out!)

Mary,
First of all congratulations on the weight loss.  I think you have done great.  I also think we all want to do better than we are doing.  When it comes to losing weight I think we are all over achievers, wanting to have big numbers.  Today I went for my one week check up and my Dr says he wants me to have my husband hide our scale.  He does not nor will he give me any idea of an ideal weight.  I am a scale person but have heard from many on here it will drive you crazy if you concentrate on the scale too much.  I would say, if the weight loss is less than you like then ask yourself how much better do I feel?  I also think the beginning stages of this eating thing is harder than I expected.  I wish I had some magic wand for you but I don't.  Please please just push forward and do the best you can.  I'm sure once you have lost some more weight you will be able to do more exercising which by the way my Dr got after me today and said this will only work with both diet and exercise.
Don't sabotage yourself with your disappointment.  Next appointment you'll be showing them, I just know it!!

Mary,

First of all, I just want to send you a hug  disappointment and being slighted is a real chip to the chin.  Now, that's said, I want to tell you how proud I am of you.  You were bold and went through the pre-surgery/surgery/post surgery like a trooper.  That's a lot to do in itself.  You came to the coffee here in St. Paul with a bright and shiney face still sticking to your regimen.  You have not flipped out and fought, but have carefully planned and pushed this far.  All of the above is a HUGE undertaking in such a small amount of time.

Your good deeds will be rewarded.  Give your body time to readjust and then it will begin again letting the weight go.  You stay steady on course and you will win.

Here's to Linda doing splits!    She is so funny!

Thank you for posting.  "It's a good thing." ~Martha Stewart
