Hi I was wondering if anyone since surgery has experienced back pain, burning sensation on back, or major itching on your back mostly mid back, for us women, right about where our bra would be?? A week after surgery I started developing these symptoms and each has increased in intensity and or spread to a larger area. At first my primary doc thought I had shingles but w/out a rash. But since it has now crossed over to the other side of my spine AND the doc now has another gastric bypass patient w/ the same symptoms she is wondering if anyone else has experienced this after surgery? I would be very interested to hear from others if they have had the same thing happen so we can try to figure out what is going on. Thanks!!

I have almost constant burning in my R shoulder blade area.   No rash, no outward sign, but burning that isn't real painful pain.   I try to stretch it out and scratch it against a wall but the only thing that makes it go away is Tylenol, which I don't want to take all the time.   I've been so glad not to have other problems that I just try to ignore this and have no idea if it is WLS related or not.  It started about 3 months after WLS.

Tuna, My pain/burning is just below the R shoulder blade and the itching is just below that. Mine started a week after surgery lasted about 3 months went away to some degree for a few weeks and now returned w/ a vengence and spread to a bigger area and I am 7 months out from surgery??? I am seeing a neurologist in a couple weeks I am looking forward to what he thinks could be the problem.

Hey you how are ya?  I do have some burning not all the time but mine is right in the very lower back almost butt area.  Mine is if I sit to long ar lay to long on one side verses the other.  I thought it was just cuz I don't have much cushion there anymore.  Please let me know what you find out.  Like I said I don't have it all the time or anything and mine started a few months ago.  Maybe I have a pinched nerve or something. I don't have any rashes of any kind so I guess thats good.  Good luck to you sweetie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marsha,
Have you looked into Sacro-Iliac Syndrome? I have had a lot of problems for the last 4 months, and mine is from Sacro-Iliac Syndrome. I am 2 1/2 years out, and it is worse if I sit or lay in the same position for too long. It burns and hurts and the only thing that helps is the Chiropractor and ice and PT. No rashes here either.

Hey Marsha, How are you??!! Did you go to the last support meeting in Hutch? Life is gonna get really busy now for me, not sure when I can make it to one of them, 2 of my kids are in basketball. Otherwise besides my back issue I am doing pretty darn great!!  Hope you are doing good, only 7 months out and I can already see how it can be hard to stay on track, I'll  have to really be careful during the holidays!!! Take care!!!

I have also had these issues. Mine is mostly in my shoulder blades and down. its more of a muscle achiness, but still painful. i am seeing pt for this right now. they tell me its because i have no abdomen muscles and i am carrying myself differently now that ive lost the weight. the exercizes they give me to do , do help.

For me that doesn't make sense because my issues started a week after surgery, I don't think my muscles changed that much in a week and would muscle issues cause MAJOR itching? I'm glad that you figured out what was causing your pain and that the PT is helping. I will keep searching for an answer!! Good Luck to you!!
