Hello EVERYONE!  I am 7 days out for my VBG.  SOOOOOOO excited!!!!
I Googled info on Pouch rules and this came up for OH.

Does anyone follow this?  The water loading seems a little different that what I have read from others on here.  It is really interesting but I am hoping some people with experience in all of this can help.

Is this bologna or is it valuable info???  By the way, it was an older post on here...on Obesity Help!

wow! i would think water loading would stretch the pouch.  That scares me.  I am 2 years out and still eat about 1 cup of food.  I have lost 200 pounds.  I dont like what that article is telling us to do.  Becareful! If you have questions please ask your surgeon!

From my experience with the VBG, I would say the article is probably pretty accurate, other than it appears to be directed more at gastric bypass (RnY) post-ops, and I wouldn't call any of it outright wrong.  I call mine my 'little stomach' and 'big stomach', which the RnY post-op doesn't have.  After 25 years with my VBG, my little stomach was tested to hold about 4 oz, and my 'band' portion was only slightly stretched.  I never did the 'water loading', but the reality is that I doubt it will hurt you. The small stomach does have an outlet to allow the water to NOT stretch the little stomach.  My VBG didn't work, probably for a number of reasons, the biggest being my metabolism.  I say this because, with my revision, I still have the same functional VBG BUT lost weight without changing much of how/what/how much I ate.  So, other than my metabolism, for success with the VBG, my advice would be DO NOT drink with meals, avoid the soft easy foods, and stay away from useless calories (sugar, soda . . . you know the list).  But absolutely don't drink with meals . . . . anyone with a brain CAN eat around a VBG if they're determined to eat the volume they want by drinking with meals.  The rules/suggestions seem  good for success, if you can follow them.  It's hard to stop eating at 15 minutes when you love what you're eating and you know you can get a few more bites in if you wait 5 minutes (or if you take a few drinks of water).

Thank you Mary,  I tend to eat really fast and dont coddle my food in my mouth.  My biggest issue is that I dont seem to ever really be full or feel "fullness".  I can easily eat a huge mans meal and not feel full.  I am hoping this changes that.

I went out and bought about 30 juars of single stage baby food.  Mostly meets but also green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, etc.  I do NOT cook, never have and I hate it more than scrubbing toilets.  I am thinking something bad must have happened in a kitchen in my baby years cuz I HATE cooking.  I am all Italian and my mother is an awesome cook as are my 2 older daughters.  I HATE it!  Do you see anything "medically" wrong with choosing baby foods as a way to get by for a while until my "little stomache" has healed and I can move to the next stage??
I am not looking for the easy way out.  I want to eat healthy, but need to find a way to NOT go to a restaurant daily anymore.

WHEW!  Thanks for listening and the advice!

There is so much information and every doctor has their own regime. I would just stick with what Dr. Rupp recommends as it has worked for his patients and many others.

Dr Rupp is wonderful!! Granted you really don't see much of him but I have taken to his staff and they have been great!! He did my surgery laprascopic and when he got in there he found a huge hernia. Rather than cut me open to repair it he took a few extra hours to fix it lap!! Hes old school and very knowledgable. Good luck with everything!!
