I wonder if I barf too much...
It doesn't help that I can't seem to throw up on my own - I get that pain in my chest and almost double over - and end up putting my spoon down my throat to "encourage" a response...
Any thoughts?
Just curious if your doctor advanced you to solids already? Dietitian said here are guidelines but let your body decided how slow you should go to try new foods
I was 2 weeks liquid/puree...
6-8 weeks of soft foods
Then try "solids" after that.. I was between 10 and 12 weeks post op before i tried solids..
Let your body set the pace for you. If your pouch can only tolerate soft/puree foods.. stick with those. I was probably 3-4 mons out before I could eat true solids... your body tells you what works and doesn't work. Remember you want your pouch to heal to the best of its ability and if you push solids too much too fast its just going to make life miserable...
I am 5 mons out and there are LOTS of solid foods I still can't eat.. white meat chicken, broccoli (unless i cook the hell out of it and then ma**** into mush)... Even something soft like scrambled eggs come up once in a while stil. Dense protein like a hamburger or meatloaf.. I can eat but VERRRRY slowly and absolutely only that 1/4 cup portion..
Chili is another good option during soft food stage..
Did you already call the clinic? If not, I would. Are you mostly having issues with meat, or any "solid" food? Fairview does advance to solids quicker than other programs, you just may not be ready.
I had the same problem as you, when something felt stuck, pain in my chest I would force myself to throw it up because I couldn't stand the pain. I've never thrown up on my own. My first bad experience was with canned chicken with mayo. That seemed to work well for alot of people, but not me. I haven't tried that since. When I would have to throw up, I know it ruined my eating the rest of the day. What solids have you been having?

I think I'll slow down even more, try some high protein softer foods for a while and if I'm still having trouble in a month or so I'll give them a call. There are just so many issues I have that NOBODY else has apparently - like the fact that I get hungry after 4 or 5 hours - I haven't found anyone else say that. The nutritionist said she'd expect us to be hungry after that long - but wouldn't you think I'd find ONE person who occasionally gets hungry even? I never forget to eat - I get a little dizzy feeling, have a funny feeling in my pouch - not hunger pains like before - but just a 'empty' sort of feeling. It goes away after a single bite of food sometimes. It worries me for the future!
