Hello everyone! It's T-4 days and counting. My Lap RNY with Dr. Hornbostel is this Friday. I had my pre-op and nutrition counseling last Friday and got the wits scared out of me. Margie the intake nurse at the hospital told me that if my liver was still too large (even after dieting all this week) Dr. Hornbostel could elect to do a 2 stage Lap RNY where a sleeve is used at first with a larger pouch and 6-12 months later (depending on how much weight you lose) a second operation would be done to fiurther restrict the pouch. HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE UNDER DR. HORNBOSTEL'S CARE??? I had never even heard of a 2 stage operation until last Friday. What, if any, are the additional risks? I would appreciate any and all info anyone has on this subject. And please, please, please Pray for me. I'm a firm beliver in the power of prayer so please remember me especially this Friday. Thank You, Theresa

we will remember you in prayer Theresa. there is a girl on here that had to have that done and she is doing excellent. I will email her and see if she will share with you? Dont worry Dr. Hornbostel is an excellent surgeon and will do what it the very best for you. You might want to call the office and talk to Dena or Margie at the dr.office if you are worried and scared . they can maybe put your mind at ease. Jan

Theresa I didnt have Dr. H do my surgery. But I did have the sleeve done with Dr. Scott. And I am so very happy with it. If you go to the top of the page and look at Forums. In the list of groups there is one called Surgery Types Forums. Click on it and you will see VGS Vertical Gastric Sleeve. You can read what it says about the sleeve. I am almost 6 months out (24th will be 6 months) and so far from surgery date till today I have lost 110lbs. And a total loss of 175lbs since Oct of last year. Please feel free to drop me an email or send me your phone number. I would be more then happy to talk to you about the sleeve. Your in my thoughts and prayers!!!! God Bless Melissa

Melissa, Thank You so much for directing me to the "sleeve forum". I'm in the process of trying to digest all of this on such a short notice. I did have an appointment with my gastroenterologist today and he thinks I won't necessarily need the sleeve based on his previous exams (believe me when I say this guy knows me inside and out). I've been his patient for over 25 years. He did suggest that I try to do some reading on the subject just in case so your directions were great. After I get through some of this, I probably will email you. Thanks again. Theresa

Theresa Yes, I did have the sleeve and was told that after I lose 75 to 100 lbs that I could get the 2nd part done. I didn't know that was what I was going to do but my liver was bad. Dr. H said it would get better when I lose weight. Well I had mine done June 1st of this year. I have lost a little over 80 lbs since then. I feel so great and asked Dr. H if I couldn't wait till after the first of the year to get anything else done. He said sure that I am doing great. If anything I think this lowers your risk and as long as you work with it as a tool you will be fine. If you want to know anymore or talk any more about it please e-mail me. LadySky

Lady Sky -- I was so hoping to hear from someone who had Dr. H do the sleeve on them. I'm mainly concerned because I have cardiomyopathy and the the thought of 2 surgeries instead of just 1 was a bit overwhelming. Not enough to make me cancel surgey, though. This blubber's going bye-bye one way or the other. Please keep me posted on your progress and I will do the same for you. Theresa

Theresa, You will be in my prayers for Friday's surgery and for a good result and recovery. I agree that Dr. H is wonderful and he'll do what's best for you. Hugs and love coming your way. Lana
