NEWBIE
Hi, I'm new to the boards and just wanted to say HI. I am getting ready to start the process of getting bypass surgery. I have a seminar of Dr. Scott's to go to on the 18th of November. Other than that I really don't know what to expect. I live in Indep and Dr. Scott is in Columbia I am hoping that he puts as many appoinments together as possible to cut down on the amount of trips I have to make to Columbia. Well, thats about it just wanted to say hi and hear suggestions anyone might have. One thing I would REALLY like to know is how long is the process??

Welcome to the Missouri board. I also had Dr. Scott as my doctor. I think Dr. Scott and his staff are wonderful. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. And if you need anything feel free to post anytime that is what we are here for. I believe from start to finish for me it was a total of 4 months before my surgery. But they went quickly and was here before I knew it. Good Luck to you!!!

Welcome Michelle - I am a relative newbie myself. My doctor is Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia, also wonderful.
I went to Dr. Hornbostel's seminar in August - got my paperwork in and got a consult appointment November 29th. Don't know yet about a surgery date. So over four months for me, for sure. But it has given me more time to research and make friends her on OH!

Good Morning Newbie!!
I don't know HOW we got mixed up, but I show your name as Michelle, and a couple of my favorite friends called you Daune.... but, I will just call you Newb! lol
I am 6 hours away from Columbia, coming from Southeast Missouri, so I know what you mean about all the traveling.
I went to the Seminar on July 9th, and had my surgery on Sept. 29th, so it is quite do-able to get things working, but a word of advise ((((only going on my personal experience))))
No one will manage your health, money, or time better than you. It's yours, and you must OWN IT.
Ask lots of questions of everyone involved, your insurance, the doctors, specialists, required appointments......
I was able to get into Missouri Bariatrics and get everything completed, by being quite organized, VERY vigalent, and courteous with all involved.
When dates were not working out for me, I was able to call and schedule most of my required appointments, labs, bloodworks, tests, studies, etc.....
Without giving ANY medical advise ((((not ever a good idea as a layman))))) there are LOTS of people here that have utilized Dr. Scott's team, and we will be able to offer time saving types.
I have found the BEST HOTEL experience in Columbia, should you have to book several appointments over a few days.
Regency Inn, on 1111 E. Broadway in Columbia....
They charge up to $180 a night, BUT....have a "MEDICAL RATE" of only Fourty Five Dollars, you just tell them you need the Medical Rate.
The day I was released from my WLS, 54 hours after my surgery, they were sooooo kind, compassionate, tucking me into bed, helping with my luggage, checking on me several times each day.....
You are required to walk after surgery, and it was such a blessing to be able to walk the 5 floors of the hotel, in a safe environment!!!
Good Luck!

Sherr,
I was just reading your reply to Newbie. WOW! on that medical rate at the hotel. I did wonder how you could afford that hotel after you had complained about the expense of driving so far and all. Now I understand. Did the doctor's office tell you about that deal or what? Anyway, that's great!

WELCOME, first of all, and secondly this process is as long as it needs to be. I know some people who've gotten lucky(so it seems) and only have a 3-4 mon wait. I began in Oct/Nov and had my WLS end of April. It takes as long as it needs to take, to let you become educated, complete all the pre-op requirements and get prepared mentally and emotionally. Be PATIENT! : )
