Anyone have their surgery pd by Medicare only? If so, can you tell me what % they pay and what your out of pocket was? I am seriously thinking about dropping Humana since they are so slow with certification. Arghhhh Just don't know what to do. I just know I need this surgery to help relieve this pain. Have a great weekend! Charlotte B.

M y total out of pocket expense was 1200.00 not bad plus the psychscholigist i had to see . They paid for most of that too. but i forgot how much i had to pay for him. It wasnt bad and i would pay that again to have this surgery. What doctor are you going to? I used Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia. He is great. You cant just go to any doctor if you have only Medicare . Since the Hospital has to be have a certificate of Excelence from Medicare. Jan

Jan and Andrew, Thanks for your quick response. I am using Dr. Hornbostel as well! One more question. Who do you have for part D insurance and I am assuming you have only Medicare when you had the surgery, Is that right? I have already had my Psych eval and Dena has all my paper work including the medical necessity letter from my Phd. Thank you thank you thank you so much. God Bless ya both! Charlotte

Charlotte, I had my surgery Nov. 14, 2006, getting approved through Medicare was about the easiest I have seen. I did have to pay for a psych. eval, but other then that I havnt gotten the bill from the hospital yet so Im not sure how much out of pocket expense it will be for me. I had mine done the same place as Jan so it will prolly be close to her since we have the same surgeon but as far as getting approved it went real smooth but also like Jan said you have to use a surgeon that operates at a hosptial that has the Certificate of Exellence. Have a great weekend. Andrew

I have Medicare only, and I didn't have any out of pocket expense, but then I use a doctor out of state, so that might make a difference. Kathleen

I am schudeled for surgery through New Start in St. Louis on the 20tj of this month. I've had my pre test met with the DR. and am on the two weeks liquid diet. Medicare is the secondary insurance but the primary won't pay nada it is an exclusion so all I have to pay is $992.oo at time of surgery.
