I need help
Ok guys I need some help. I had surgery in Nov. 05 and the only follow up appointments I had were to remove my staples and then we moved to Missouri and I've had no insurance till now ( which starts on the 1st) so I am needing a list of the blood work that needs to be done so I can see where I stand. If anyone has this information I would greatly appreciate it. If you have any other suggestions those are welcome too. I started out at 337# and am now down to 172# with a loss of 165# so far I think I'm doing great but need some input and need to see a Dr. I was so sick last week and went to urgent care as a selfpay and was told there that I am hypoglycemic now due to the surgery which I didn't know could happen but wish someone would have told me, not that it would change the fact that I had this surgery but I could have been more on the lookout for this problem.

Hello Anita;
First of all Welcome!!!
Don't worry about anyone telling you this is caused by your surgery. It seems to me (with nearly 4 years experience) all Drs and anyone else wants to blame our surgery for everything due to a lack of knowledge. Vesta has a good Dr for you to go see. That would be best. Please let us know after going to see what ever Dr you choose what he says.
Please keep in touch, we are here for you.

Hi Anita,
I'm in your town too!
As for the hypoglycemia, many of us experience that but you can completely avoid issues with it if you monitor your intake of carbs and be sure to balance the carbs with the protein. Most of us longer term post-ops have experienced this and through talking about it at our support group (Circle of Friends) we've realized how we all deal with it. My first experience with it was after eating chips and salsa at a Mexican resturant...didn't have room for my meal, so didn't get in my protein, then BOOM, 40 mins later I was shaking, cold sweats, felt faint...it was scary!! But after realizing how it happens, I've been able to prevent it from happening by making sure I do not eat carbs without protein AND I NEVER let more than 3 hours pass without eating.
If you haven't been to one of our meetings you should come this month!
Does your ins. go through St John's or Cox? In Ozark there is a really good bariatric friendly PCP with St John's named Dr Woods. He's a PCP but was GREAT with knowing about WLS. I now have Cox Drs and just have a PCP, and I educate him as to what my needs are regarding WLS, he goes along with it. lol But that's fine as I've not had any health issues regarding WLS.
Welcome to the board!
Tami
