Any hometown friends? Cape Gir.-Jackson, MO
Hi Mary welcome to the MO board! I am new and have not had my RYN surgery yet and I can't answer much about the Lap Band but I know there are people who have had it done that come here. There are alot of very knowlegeable people on this board that can answer most of your questions and make you feel at home here. I just wanted to say hello,
Susan

Hello Mary.....I'm not actually from your area....but I don't live too far away...I live in Campbell Mo....I have not had surgery yet and I'm not having the band but there is a girl on here that has had it and I'm sure as soon as she gets a chance to see your post she will be giving you a yell. She should be able to give you more info on it.
If I'm not mistaken they do the lap-band in St.louis...I'm going to Colulmbia and I don't think they do it there. There might be some where other than St.Louis that does it but I'm not sure where.
I wish you luck with your search.....and hope you keep stopping by the board to keep us updated on how things are going.
By the way ....Have you gone to any support meetings....I hear there is one at S.E. Hospt every second Sat and I was wondering about them but I don't know anyone that goes there. From what I can tell it is going to be the closest place for me to go to a support meeting.....Bye for now...Tammy H.
Hi Tammy
I am just now starting my journey for the lap-band. I know that I'm in for a fight with all of it because I'm on Medicaid due to disability. I herad they turn you down a lot, and from what I gathered on this board Medicaid will only pay for the ryn. I don't even know what that is yet. But I'm like a pit bull when it comes to getting things done. So, you guys will probably see me around for a while cause i'm in for the long haul. HA!
See ya.......Take Care.......

Hi Mary,
I live west of you over in the Clearwater Lake area.
I had RNY done by Dr. Hornbostal in Sedalia MO. last August and have lost 100 lbs.
I have Medicare and at that time he was the only COE in MO so I went to him, but I'm glad I did he is the best. I'm like Tammy and was wondering about the support meeting at S.E. hospital, do you know anything about it?
Good luck with your surgery.
Brenda
Hi Mary.....RNY stand for ......Roux-en y Gastric Bypass.....If you go to the home page and look to the top left you will see a section called "Featured Topics" and will see a list of the different surgeries...You can click on the Roux-en Y Gastric Bypass and it will tell you more about it. There are a few different types of weight loss surgery you can choose from. If I were you I would go read about each one of them then talk to my doctor about them and let him help you decide which one might be best for you....In the beginning I was set out to do the RNY...but after talking to Dr.Scott we agreeed that because of my weight and BMI that I would do mine in two parts to do it the safest way....I will be having the Gastric Sleeve done first then when I loose enough weight I will do the RNY....
I have Mo Medicade and they are picky about certain things but Dr.Scott says they have come along ways with Medicade and what they will go for since the WLS's have come so far and so many people need it to improve and even save their lives. I was worried they may not pay for mine if I done it in two parts but he said he is already dealing with them on that way of doing it with several other patients he has. So I agreed to do it that way because I want to loose weight more than anything but I want to do it as safely as possible.....
So as soon as you get time go read up on the types of surgery......I know there are doctors that do the lap-band but I'm not sure who does it or if medicade pays for it...You can call the number on the back of your card and check into it yourself so you will know.....Then you will have a better Ideal of where you might want to call to try and get a doctor for your WLS. .......Hope I was of some help.....Hugs & Love...Tammy H.
