Dear Chante, It took me awhile to find this post-LOL....I knew I had to have missed ya somewhere on here...We have so many newbies posting, that the new posts are only on that one page for that day! LOL-wouldnt have it any other way! I think its a very good idea for you to quit the sugar and caffeine now too-because I had my surgery in November-but I went off all sugar and regular sodas in July after my seminar. I did switch to diet soda, but then I quit that too before hand. Every surgeon is different-BUT...mine allows a cup or two of coffee each day-and I drink it-very very happily, I might add. I think anything you can do beforehand is better for your body after-I didnt want my body to go-WTH? is going on here-so I had plenty of time to adjust to everything by the time my date came. Splenda is a really good sugar substitute-but Walmart has some knock off brands that are just as good-as well as Crystal light in the Walmart brand-its awesome. I have personally tried several *around 10 or so* protein powders/drinks-and the ON is by far my favorite-but you pay an arm and a leg for it at the health food store ($55 for 5# tub) or you can get the same thing at Food 4 Less for $24 or so. They also sell it online at Allstarhealth.com, for the Food 4 Less price-but there is a 5.95 flat fee shipping-but then its still cheaper than the health food stores. You will also be able to take different things for constipation/gas. Do you have a NUT that will be doing a group type seminar with you before surgery? Our facility did-and it was not only very helpful-but insightful-because she taught us HOW to read labels and what to look for. On that protein shake-there is less than 4 for carbs and 1 sugar I believe-its very very low-and I havent had a flavor yet that I dont like. I like them all. As far as right after surgery-honey, everyone is different. I had 3 c-sections, 2 knee surgeries, breast surgery and this was my hardest-BUT....it only lasted a couple of hours-and right after recovery, I got up within 2 hours and walked around and I just kept moving-the more you move-the better off you are....You will also have a pain pump-so you can push the button when you need something for pain, so its not bad at all. I recommend you bring a pillow for the ride home and some gas x strips....just in case. I brought my own slippers and socks-and glad I did-cause the socks they put on me, wouldnt stay right on my feet-LOL...Also-chapstick, your lips WILL get dry and cracked, so its good to have some. If you still have more questions-we would love for you to post some more. Jan C does a Whats Happening post every single day-and we would love for you to come on and let us get to know you....we have so many newbies-and we are trying to welcome you all and let you know we do care-but we would also like to see you guys post and get to know ya~so, please tell us about yourself-and good luck to you, honey-I know you get nervous...heck-you wouldnt be normal if you werent. ALL of us post ops were there and remember that feeling-so we will pray for you-and lift you up in prayer for peace of mind and let us know if you need ANYTHING at all-ok? Thats what we are here for! Love to you, Janet

Hey Jan Thanks for the response. I will definitely take all of your great advice. I believe it can only help me. I went and looked for some Whey protein today at Wally World (walmart) but they only had chocolate and Im not a big choco buff! I think I will try another one and see if they have like vanilla. What about the weigh****chers protein shakes for now until surgery? Do you think those will be okay to take? Oh, and I also ordered some protein shots in a tube from bariatric health or something like that. One of the ladies in my pre-op class had a print out from their website. I think you get a case of protein shots in little test tubes and you can pour over ice or something like that. I figure that would be a great way to get in the protein you need because each tube I believe has 25 g of protein in them. So Ill see how those go. So how was your day? It was pretty crappy looking outside. A good day to curl up with a book or look at a good movie, but lucky me, I got to help my mother in law move into her new apartment. I guess I shouldn't regret staying home too much because I know she would've done the same thing for me. Hey Jan which surgeon did you have? I have not gone to a support group meeting yet, but Im going to find out when the meetings are so I can attend. So far what would you say has been your best WOW moment since surgery? Talk 2 you soon WINGS!!! Take Care

Dear Chante-Hello there On the protein-did I send you an email about the ON Gold Standard? IF not, let me know and I will get you that info-because girl-it IS the best. I have tried several, and I do mean several-and it is MY favorite-along with about 90% of the people on the board-LOL...Ok-so I will also send you a few samples and you can try them out if you want to send me your address.K? Lets see here.....the whey bullets-I think they have more than 30 g of protein (most anyway) and your body cant absorb more than 30 g per hour...so-whatever is over 30-cap it off and drink the rest later-so your not wasting. I had gotten some orange whey bullets from my angel in New York and they were 46 I believe-and I didnt know that about the 30 g per hour-so I wasted AND didnt get ALL my protein in everyday!! Bummer!! Alright, lets see here..... My surgeon (or angel as I call her-she SAVED my life-literally-and I LOVE HER) is Dr. Fearing at MO Bariatrics. Dr. Scott was her assistant in my surgery as they team up for every surgery....I wish you lived closer to us-because our Circle of Friends support group in Springfield ROCKS.....they are the nicest, most loving group of people you have ever met! Most are on this board too-and they are just awesome. I had to miss MArch's meeting because of my back and sitter etc-but I am going again this month, feel like I am in a funk because of it!! LOL-I strongly believe in the support-thats why I will always be a part of helping newbies-and talking to other post ops-its WAY TOO IMPORTANT to just let go! If you ever get that way the 4th Monday of the month-PLEASE come and see us-we WOULD LOVE TO MEET YOU-of course, cant see your pretty face on here- (HINT HINT) so wouldnt know ya if I passed you on the street!! Wow...my best WOW moment? I really dont know if I can pick a best! I have tears rolling down my face as I think of how my life has changed and trying to pick the best. I would have to say-being a part of my familys lives again-By that, I mean-I am not just a couch potato anymore-I can play with the boys outside-I can walk the mall with my teen age daughter, I can wear a seatbelt in ANY car now-even my own! (when my hubby bought me the 2005 Santa Fe-I couldnt barely fit behind the wheel-I could NOT fit in the backseat AND NO SEATBELTS IN ANY CAR FIT ME!) I was too afraid to get in the car the day we went to pick it up-because all the sales people were out there and I was afraid I wouldnt fit (now I can wear the seatbelts, front and I can sit in the back and wear those too-)....I know this is REALLY PERSONAL...but the thing that I really really missed was my dignity. I was so fat-I had to stand up to wipe my ass. I would huff and puff taking a 5 minute shower. I slept in a lazy boy chair for 2 years because my knees were so bad-but the weight of my legs hurt too much to sleep laying down-so now I am back in bed with my hubby where I belong! When I lost my 100#-I was pretty excited. When I bought my first REAL pair of jeans at a real jeans store-that was HUGE...I can now buy And wear things from Wal Mart, when before I couldnt even hardly find things at Catherines that fit. I gave my son a piggy back ride the other day and chased him around the house and I was running. I can go for my mile walk with my hubby and/or my kids and I dont have to stop every 5 feet and take a break and I dont get winded easily like before. I can stand and make dinner-all of it-I do the dishes, I clean my house, I shop at the store without using one of the electric carts-like I always did before. Havent since surgery. Boy, what else? Honey-there is so much...so many LITTLE things, that mean so much to me-and they may not to other people...ya know? But-I am not always the biggest person wherever I go-I can get weighed on the scales ANYWHERE Now-and couldnt before. I can sit on ANY chairs-with sides-and couldnt before-I have NEVER been able to sit in the chairs of my patio set-and I fit with room now. My family or hubby and I go to a restuarant and I can sit at a booth with them. Never have before. My hubby loves booths-but I never fit before. Sweety, you will not be able to put a price on how this changes your life. I love life now-I look forward to each and every day-no matter what! I dreaded waking up before because it seemed like I couldnt do anything anyway.....so now-my life is what I always wanted-well-the surroundings didnt change-just me. If you have regular email-you are more than welcome to email me directly at [email protected] I have to go now-I have to go get my stepsons b-day cake from town (I live in the country!) and get home and get some things done before the kids get home. Please email me-would love to tt you more. Ok? Love to you-good luck and I will be thinking about you and holding you up in prayer. Love, wings
