I previously posted that I had no more hope, well I decied that I can't give up just because the first surgeon I sought after won't take my insurance. I have Humana Choice PPO which is a medicare replacement. I callded Humana to see if Dr. Hornbostel was in network well they told me that they couldn't find him on their list but gave me their website to look up a surgeon and I was able to find him on the list so I was very happy about that. Humana also told me that I could go 100 miles from home and Sadelia is 88 miles from me so that's good that it falls within the 100 miles so there is hope after all? I called Dr. Hornbostel's office late this afternoon and was told that I had to attend one of his seminar's before doing anything else so I'm going to the seminar on Tues. June 5th. I know a lot of you have Dr. Hornbostel as your surgeon can anyone tell me what the requirements are such as do you have to have a Pysch. evaluation and go through counseling etc....? Thanks for all your help and support it is much appreciated because this is a rough journey.... Bev~

Bev I had Dr. Hornbostel back in August of 06, the best surgeon in the world. I was medicare and the only thing i had to do then outside, was a psych evaluation. nothing else except for pre op testing , of x-ray and ekg. all done at the hospital 2 weeks before surgery. I know that he has changed things some since then with a scope which is done the day of pre op testing and he now requires 2 weeks of liquid diet. The Hospital only has one thing and that is that you have to be under 450 pounds since their tables and equipment wont hold more than that they say. there may be other things but that is all that i know of . Oh and another great thing about Dr. Hornbostel is that he doesnt put in those God awful drains. Proving that they are totally unnecessary. Good luck . the seminar is great and there is a web site that you can go onto and fill out the paper work. In fact you can do that before the meeting if you want to and you will be ahead of the game. Hi Bev, Yep Dr Hornbostel DOES take medicare Humana - I have the Gold Choice Humana with prescription drugs (I'm on social security disability and can't work) and he does take people like me with nothing BUT medicare. All I owe the hosp is $500. which is my copay for hospitalization. And yeah everyone MUST go to one of the seminar's that are put on monthly. It's very interestiing though and great fun to meet a lot the folks you visit with on the OH board. I went with my daughter-in-law last Sept. He is a REALLY good doctor (in my opinion you couldn't do better!) Take care, Patricia B
