Sorry you're having such a tough time Tammy. I aven't had surgery yet so I wouldn't know what to tell you. I hope it gets better for you. Also, I havwe heard people talk about the little vials and how they are good after having surgery because theres less of them and you get as much protein. Have you tried them?? I was wondering because I might try them after my surgery. Sorry I couldn't be of help. Just wanted you to know I am here and pulling for you. Hugs Chelle

I had my surgery 9/6/06 and had the worst time with Protein too!  I would say buy a variety in the form of samples.  It's not as cheap as buying in bulk, but at least you have a better chance of finding something you like.  Remember you don't have to use the whole scoop at one sitting.  Measure out a scoop and keep it in a separate container for the day--then add a bit to coffee, or make smaller sized drinks so it's not so intimidating. I found a great protein I like called "Pure Protein".  It comes in chocolate, bannana, strawberry, and cookies and cream (I just ordered the cookies and cream--I'm excited to try it!).  It's sold in a can, and I think it tastes great.  I order mine from Amazon.com--I attached a link.  It's a bit pricey, but it works for me.  I think they also sell it at GNC, if you wanted to buy a can and give it a try.  You will want to wait until you are further out because it's thicker than the poweder drinks--it might make you queasy at this point.  I'd wait until month 3 or so. :)  Good luck! http://www.amazon.com/Worldwide-Sport-Protein-Frosty-Chocola te/dp/B00014FUKU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-8673139-0227318?ie=UTF8 &s=hpc&qid=1181934441&sr=8-2

Hi Tammy    I am sorry to hear that you are having gag-day.

I wish I could help. I haven't had my surgery yet, but am feeling gaggy from this liquid protein pre-op diet myself. I guess for me, just taking little sips kind of helps.  Maybe the temperature could be adjusted?

Tammy: What protein are you using?  I didn't try any protein drinks until after my surgery (I wasn't required to do the two week liquid diet).  I ordered samples on vitalady.com and found a few I liked.  The one I use mainly I buy at Walmart.  My hairdresser had me try it at her house and I could actually drink it.  Tastes like chocolate milk.  The others I bought at Vitamin World were so thick and grainy.  The one at Walmart is called Body Fortress 100% Premium Whey Protein Power.  You get a 2 lbs jug for around $12.00.  Comes in Vanilla and Chocolate.  I've only tired the chocolate. Hope this helps.  I know I had a hard time getting in my protein.  But when my hairdresser mentioned how thin my hair and then she had me try the one she bought at Walmart...I was so thankful!  She cut my hair today and said it was a lot better than it was a month ago. Take care, Debbie D.

Thanks so much for the responses.... The protien powder I am using is the one from wal mart....I have tried samples but for the price of the stuff on line I have stuck with the wal mart one because it's more reasonable and I have not had any problems with the taste...I flavor it with dannons lite and fit yogurt or sf pudding mix and have not had any problems with it till now..... I think with as slow as I have to drink it..some of the problem may be it getting warm so I am thinking about putting ice in it or something and see if that helps....Ill keep working with it till I get something figured out....just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problems or had a good remide.

Thanks alot girls....BIG HUGS...Tammy

Tammy great post.   I like you, drank the Optimum Nutrition like crazy before my surgery.  I can drink milk, but when I try to drink WHEY it makes me very sick.   Like food poisoning sick.  I drank one on Monday, and still don't feel right.  It's like whey turns on my stomach.... I may try some of the options you guys mention.... I will say that the "Vials" a lot of people mention, (TO ME) tasted like fruit punch MIXED with BEEF STEW...(((GAG))) I could NEVER drink those...Again, that is just my weird quirky taste buds. LOL Sherr

Tammy I too had that same problem. Here is what I did... I took a pack of SF/FF chocolate pudding mix and blended in two scoops of protein as well....Then I put them in little cups and you can top it with FF/SF Whip Cream. Its alot smoother but if you keep drinking it as a shake you will get use to it more and more like I have.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions and for taking time to respond...The Ideal of making it in pudding was a good one..I will try it that way next week when I go on my soft foods....It might be more like a small desert like that with the whip topping.....  This evening when I did my shake I put 3 ice cubes in it and shook them in it while I shook it to mix it and it was a whole lot better chilled like that! So maybe my stomach will adjust to them again doing it that way.... Thanks again guys...Tammy
