HORRIBLE PAINS

Hey, Last night I had HORRIBLE pains in my left side (where my bigger incision was made). Dr. Ramaswamy said it is normal for it to be more painful there cause that was the biggest one that was made and plus she hit a vessle. Thing is, I am not sure if I have been doing too much. I am active but I'm not lifting weights or anything. I sat for 4 hour yesterday to get my hair done--then went to the ball game last night (sat another 3 hrs). The night before we went to see a movie with a buddy of ours & his gf. Well he had us cracking up all night..then lastnight I was cracking up again at how funny he was. I am not sure if it is from the laughing or what. When I laugh I have to hold it or it hurts. The pain was so bad last night that it hurt to walk or even stand. I actually had to hold my breath while I tried to walk. The pains were stabbing sharp pains. I got home and took my Tylenol w/codeine and after that I laid down. The pain was gone, yes..but I could STILL feel a dull ache. I just called Columbia Hospital and have not received a call back yet. I am just hoping I didn't rip anything in there.  Not sure if anyone else has experienced this...but any input would be good. Thanks Cheryl

Hey girl!!! Didn't they tell you to take it easy???? lol lol...I would say you probably over did it a bit....The area where the drain was will be a lil tender for a bit longer.....You should probably take it easy for a few days... but if it continues to hurt too bad I would go get it checked out....Hope you feel better soon!!! Drop a line when you can....HUGS....Tammy H.

Hey, The pains that I had were on the left side. My drain was on the right. The drain area really never hurt. I called Columbia yesterday @ 11 a.m. and was on the phone (on hold) for 30 minutes then they said I would get a call back. Here it is nearly 24 hrs later and still no call back. The pains are not there now, but it did concern me. Cheryl

Dear Cheryl, I posted and then saw this post from you!!  I used to call and just leave a message for the nurse or talk to her-Amy or Natalie, not the girls at the front desk-who seem to forget about call backs-I swear-they NEVER called back!!!   Also-I have Natalies email address IF you want it-I will email it to you so that you can email her directly-she usually gets back to you the same day unless she is out of town or something. Just let me know if you want it and I will send it to you-ok?  Good luck-Janet

Oh hey, No, I called the hospital yesterday (Saturday). This is why it concerns me so much. You would think I would have gotten a call back by now. Cheryl

Dear Cheryl,

Reading your post took me back a couple of months....Oh girl-I remember thinking, because the pain was so horrific, that something pulled apart or is ripping in there-because I couldnt imagine that pain being just a casual side effect-HOLY CRAP-it hurt-and I too, called to check on it-and I was told to take it TOTALLY easy for a couple of days and if it didnt go away OR became constant to get back to the office or the hospital-but after 3 days of resting (whether sitting or not-I was to take it EASY, at home-and do NOTHING *hint hint*) and it did go away, BUT-for like 3 months post op-it would come back for a couple of days at a time here and there. When I went to my check up-they checked me over and everything was okay....all the pain was in the drain incision site and yes-it is normal-and yes, even lots of laughing will irritate everything in there-so stay away from funny people for a bit-LOL....There were times I couldnt stand up straight after the stabbing pain episodes....So-it does happen to a lot of us-so just TAKE IT EASY...remember-you just had major surgery-its going to take your insides a couple of months to get all normal again!! Of course, I am not a doc, I can just tell you that I went through the same thing, and in my case, it was all okay and normal....I will keep you in my prayers-good luck and please take it easy!!!  All my love, Janet
