Hey Erin, Dr. Ramaswamy just told me to hold my breath for 5 seconds. It was a cakewalk compared to the pain after surgery. It stung a bit to get the stitches cut from the tubing. But like some others have said, yes it is very fast when they take it out. Your life will be MUCH MUCH better without it. Or atleast mine was. :) So, I wouldn't take pain medication before you go. I can tolerate a lot of pain and it was just a tug. Anyway, I hope that helps. Cheryl

Hi! I just had my drain out last week. It is a strange feeling and hurts a lttle, but it only lasts about 3-5 seconds. Like she said earlier, piece of cake.  Don't be apprehensive about it, there is nothing to it.  Elisa

i had a wee illeus when i went to the dr to have mine removed.  my stomach was tender but i had no other symptoms at that time [woke up the next morning with fever and pain--went to the er and was resolved in a few hours]  it was a tug and then it was gone and i felt better.  didnt really hurt...was a bit uncomfortable for a few minutes.  since it is a flat drain it slides out easily.  no worries!!!
