Need some Motivation

I have to be honest here and say that my pre-op dr. supervised diet isn't going very well or as well as I would have hoped for.  I can't seem to stay motivated and this is where I have problems.  I can be motivated for a few weeks then that motivation is gone then I get all off track.  I come to this site just about daily especially now that I have a blackberry.  I see the results from others and think, "Wow" that could be me someday.  You would think that would be all that it takes to motivate me but for some reason it doesn't seem like enough.  I need a motivational coach or something to help me stay on track and accountable for what I do daily.  I want this to work for me but I need major help.  Any suggestions or comments are welcome. Thanks,

Bev, It is hard to stay motivated pre-op.  If we were good at that we wouldn't need surgery.  However, I did pretty well by forcing myself to remember that I wanted this surgery soooooo badly and that I would do anything and everything required to have it.  I think the one day at a time thing is good - we are addicts after all.  I also think Jan's suggestion of Weigh****chers is good.  That is a wonderful program and they help you stay motivated and accountable with weekly weigh-ins and meetings.  You won't be able to eat the way they do after surgery but as a pre-op tool it would be good.  Find the things that are triggers for you and try to eliminate them from your life.  I eliminated soda, white potatoes, white bread, etc before surgery to practice for afterward.  I think soda causes more problems for more people, especially the sugared kind and I was a Classic Coke freak.  My DD helped me with that by saying think of it as just eating six teaspoons of pure sugar with a spoon.  Somehow that helped me.  Also chips and snack cakes.  Substitute more healthy chips like Stacy's Naked Pita chips or just be aware of how many calories you can eat without thinking and measure out your chips and then put the bag out of sight.  After surgery you won't be so hungry physically but you will still "want" the foods you have problems with but by eliminating them before surgery it helps.  I haven't touched a Ritz cracker, potato chip, cheese cracker or cheese curl and I'm not that strong - just extremely motivated now.  I promise it will get easier so just try one day at a time and if you mess up, get back on the horse the next day.  Don't get down on yourself, you can do this!!! If you want to contact me anytime I'll answer as soon as I can.  I'm at work so sometimes I can't get right back to you.  You can send me a direct message and I'll give you my email address.  I sure don't have the answers but I'm a heck of a cheerleader. Hugs, Lana

"WLS is about making better choices, a healthier lifestyle and seeing how little you can eat.  Portion control is the key to all weight loss surgeries.  Bottom line - it isn't how much you can eat - it is how little you can eat."

Lana is right, it is hard to get motivated. What I did was I kept on looking back at my life do I want to be this way the rest of my life..or do I want to be healthy and stay here with my family on earth. If I thought for a moment I was to give up . I would think , now is that hamburger really going to be that good...NO, it wont. I will eat it and then it goes to my heart , around  my heart , to my hips and just extra to get rid of that I dont need. Each beef broth that I drank and each SF popsycle i put in my mouth , I thanked GOD. ALso there are people that want this WLS and they are having problems getting it. I do not want to let them down and just up and quit. Iam going to drink my liquid diet and go for it. it wont last long. Just only for a little while. You can do it. We all know you can do it. I have always said. THROW YOUR HANDS UP AND GIVE THIS TO JESUS. TELL HIM WHAT YOU NEED . TELL HIM WHAT YOU WANT. He will answer your prayer and find you  a comfort spot in this pre op period. Go for it ...God Bless Craig Lee

Hey....Sorry to hear your having problems with your diet... I know it's not easy...I did the liquid protien diet before surgery and boy was it hard some days!!!!!  Who's your angel???? When you loose your motivation like that or need to talk....CALL YOUR ANGEL!!!! It makes this much easier if your not going thru this alone!!!  Is your family supportive of you doing this?? Think about the reasons that made you decide to have the surgery to begin with....Write to your self...put lists up.....put an ole picture up or a pic of a special outfit you would like to wear at some point.....make a list of ok snacks to grab when your feeling like you just need something....And I agree with Craig....the best support you can find in hard times like this is the Good Lord!!! Any time your feeling week or upset during your journey...take a sec to ask for the strenght and guidance only he can give you! I will keep you in my prayers and I wish you all the best!!!! HUGS....Tammy~ammy
