Adensin(e) Stress Test
Ive never had one but it is medication that speeds your heart up like if you are running to see how your heart does. they have you hooked up to all kinds of machines and they will be watching you all the time. So dont worry it is safe. I dont know anything else than that about it except that everyone says it makes them very tired afterwards ....Jan

Robin...
I had to have one of these even though I do not (nor have I ever) had cardiac concerns. Even preop I was quite easily working out on my treadmill but the cardiologist would not let me do the traditional treadmill test. So I had to have the Adenosine.
I am not going to lie to you. It was not pleasant. The hookup is no biggie.... I.V. started and the EKG patches on your chest and legs.. The flippin' idiot of a dr. that did mine was SUPPOSED to tell me when they were going to inject the chemicals to induce the stress. Well he didn't.
I had just exhaled and suddenly found myself not able to INHALE. It felt like 2 -10 ton elephants were sitting on my chest and that my heart was going to jump out and run around the room. All of this while I was desperately trying to breathe. I thought my husband (who btw he tried to kick out of the room before he started the test...which I nixed straightaway) was going to punch his lights out.
I am sure that if I would of been able to take a deep breath prior to being injected it would of been ALOT less stressful but in my case he didn't do that. I will tell you that it is uncomfortable feeling your heart leaping and bounding in your chest coupled with the pressure. After they stop the injection you will find pretty immediate relief (thankfully)...then you will be moved to another room where they will take several scans of you...and then you are free to go.
I didn't have any of the fatigue afterwards as I had been working out religiously everyday for weeks prior so that didn't faze me. It was the sudden intense pain and the inability to breathe that almost got me...
Afterwards I talked to my WLS surgeon and even he told me that they are supposed to let you know when they are injecting it so that you can take a deep breath prior... I also asked him if that is what experiencing a heart attack might feel like and he said yes... definitely...
THANKGOODNESS I have a strong ticker...
I know that this test might be a bit nerve wracking but trust me... it is just a teensy small blip on the road to a wonderful bright future after having your WLS... prior to my surgery I was wearing size 26's and up... right now I wear size 8-10's....
So it is definitely worth it!!!!
Hang in there !!!
