Ok, I have been a very faithful lurker on this board for a few months now, have even posted a time a two, but I have to post tonight!!!  I made the decision a couple of months ago to go to Mexico for my surgery, well, I set my date today.  July 23 is my day...to say I am excited it a huge understatement.  I can honestly say I am not scared at all, that will probably change the closer it gets, but the fear is not there now.  And I think that is in part due to all of your posts on this board, you all have educated me and prepared my for this step without even knowing it.  This is the first time I have ever said this, but I have my eye on my spot on the loosers bench.  It just seems so weird to even be able to say that.  Thank God for the support of my DH, family and my bank

July 23 isnt very far away and we are only a keystroke away from any support you might need. The losers bench has a spot waiting just for you. Jan

Jan, thanks for saving my spot!!  It seems real now, and I know I am going to have so many questions.  What a comfort to know where to turn!  Thanks for your prayers!    Amy

Dear Amy, Hey there~CONGRATS~CONGRATS~CONGRATS~Girl-we will be have your seat polished and ready for you to join us!! How long will you be down there? Which surgery are you having? Will you have a drain? Do you have an angel yet?  Ok-enough of the questions-Im so happy for you!!! I know you have had your heart set on this for such a long time-and I am so happy for you that you get to finally get it done!!

I had emailed you a couple of times, when you were going through your insurance denying you-and I figured you just didnt really want to talk about it or go to a support meeting-but I hope we will get the opportunity to meet all of us one day and feel more comfortable to post and let us get to know you. I know you arent far from me-and heck-we have probably even seen each other before-LOL...I go to Neosho all the time-and I worked at Freeman Hospital for almost 7 years-

Please come back and post IF you have any questions or concerns OR just need someone to talk to-ok? I was praying for you that something would work out-and now I will continue to pray for a safe surgery and speedy recovery! Im glad your hearts desires have been realized and will be fulfilled-You certainly deserve it-and your seat will be ready for ya!! Take care and again-CONGRATS- Janet

Janet, THANKS so much for being who you are...you totally understood where I was at with my frustration.  My decision to go ahead and self pay has really opened up a floodgate for me, I am waiting for the next support group meeting...the thought of actually being able to participate is so exciting. I actually would have come to the last one, but as usual, being a baseball/softball mom won out.  But I know that I have reached a point where I need to make that kind of support a priority, who better to hold my hand than the ones who went down the path first!

Now, to answer some of your questions...I am having the RNY, I will be in Mexico 8 days. They keep you in the hospital 4 days and then a resort next to the hospital the remainder of the time. While in the resort the doctor comes to visit at least once and usually twice a day. I will get to Mexico and have alot of preop testing done, I will take all of my records with me, so I may be able to eliminate some of that.  The packet they sent me to fill out is so much like what I filled out for Dr. De La Torre I am able to copy alot of it from there thank goodness or I would be working on it forever.  It is VERY detailed, which makes me feel good to tell you the truth. Assuming there are no complications I will be headed home on the 30th.  I have to do the 2 week liquid diet (I have already warned all my co-workers and family I may be a little grouchy). I will have a drain, but it will be gone way before I leave, at least that is what I have been told, although only lady I talked to who had their surgery there said she did not have a drain, so that may be on a case by case basis.  I do not have an angel yet, but would love to have one if there are any willing souls out there. And you know, I bet we do know eachother, or at least seen eachother, I worked at Freeman for several years as well.  I was mostly nursery/nicu and peds.  I would love to visit with you some time, and maybe even introduce you to my DH, he has very little clue what he is in for with this surgery, he probably has as many questions as I do...haha Thanks again!  Amy

Amy, WOOHOO!!!!  I'm so happy for you.  I've been to Mexico for some minor plastics (collegen-type injections) and it was cool.  Let us know how you're doing.  We're here for you always. Hugs, Lana

Lana, thanks so much...you are always soooo positive, and it is good to know you had a positive experience in Mexico.  I am totally planning on a positive experience as well, and who knows...maybe we could do some more plastcis together south of the border sometime.  Amy

Amy, I really would consider that (PS in Mexico).  Most of the doctors are trained in the US and except for the fact that some of the nursing staff don't have really great English the caring was exceptional.  You can always make yourself understood, just sometimes takes some patience.  You'll do great. Hugs, Lana
