Ginger is gone.....

First of all, I want to thank all of you who prayed for our beloved pet Ginger.  By the time I got her to the vet this morning she wouldn't get out of the back seat.  The vet had to carry into the office.  Then when they called our name she wouldn't get up and they had to carry her into a room.  The vet said her color was bad, her breathing labored and her temperature was very low.  He said her heart was pounding but his guess what that she did have congestive heart failure and probably other problems as well.  He said the liver and something else (can't remember) was affected as well as the heart.  David and I had discussed what we would do if she took a turn for the worst.  We had already spent around $200 these past two months on her and didn't want to spend money to just prolong her life if she wouldn't have any quality of life. I have to tell you, it was one of the hardest decisions I have made, but I decided to put her asleep.  I discussed this with the vet and he told me he thought was the best choice.  He then shared with me that he had a dog when he was younger who had congestive heart failure.  He said he was in denial and didn't want to believe she was dying.  He said she died 3 days later anyways and he knew she suffered during those 3 days.  I stayed in there with Ginger and told her how much we all loved her.  I thanked her for being such a great pet and loving us and our boys as much as she did.  It was hard and I cried a lot of tears but I know I did the right thing.   Please pray for my boys.  I talked to David this morning and he asked if I wanted him to come home today.  It's a 3 hour drive andI told him no that I would take care of it.  I asked him not to tell the boys.  He is suppose to call me later this afternoon.  Sunday is family day.  David will come home with me that day but the boys don't come home until a week from today.  I think it would be better to wait until they come home...just don't want to lie if they ask me how she's doing.  I asked the Lord for wisdom this morning and I believe He guided me and I know He'll continue to guide David and I on how we tell the boys.  I also know your prayers help. Thank you so much for your prayers and your kind words, Debbie D.

Hello Debbie. My thoughts are with you. We had to go through that twice with two of our dogs in a 10-month period, and it hurts. It is tough to lose a pet, as they give so much to our lives. Even though it  is hard for us, we have to do what is right for our beloved pet. It will be hard on the boys for a while, as it is for you and David, but it will ease in time. We have four dogs and four cats, and are getting ready to adopt two old shelter dogs who have very little chance of adoption because of their age, but maybe we can be a blessing for them in their twilight years!  God Bless You! Oh Debbie I am so sorry.  I cried for your sweet dog as I read your post.  I know that it will not be long before I will have to do the same thing for my dog also.  My heart and prayers are with your family, expecially your boys.  Love Susan

Dearest Debbie, Your post brought tears to my eyes-and I am keeping you and your dear family in my prayers. Pets become such a part of our lives-and you are such a wonderful person to end her suffering, even though it takes its toll on us! She is in a much better place now-and pain free!! I hope you will find much comfort in those thoughts and the fact that you chose to do what was best for her and not your heart! Its so hard though. I will continue to pray for you and your boys and I am sure that you will handle it all the best you can in this situation, just know that there are lots of prayers being said for all of you and that we love you. Debbie, I am so sad but so proud of you for being a good responsible pet owner/mommie and making the horribly tough decision to stop Ginger's suffering.  You did the right thing and she will be waiting for you on the rainbow bridge when your life is over.  Hugs and loveys to you and your sweet family.
