KC area anyone?
Hi Smilingone, Yes, I did go through Liv-Lite. They sent me a packet to fill out about my background and med history. I filled it out sent it back and they duked it out with my insurance and everything. Once they sent in the formal request, I was approved in about 8 days. I got approved I believe it was in May, had my consult June 1st. I then did my pre-op testing on June 2nd and had surgery July 13th of 06'. Not sure if I answered your question or not but that's a summary of how things progressed for me. Anything else I can help you out with, just let me know!
I went to doc Hitch**** (sp) and Hoehn's seminar before I decided to go with Liv-Lite. I really enjoyed Dr. Hitch****'s delivery at the seminar.
You are welcome! I liked both programs but found KC bariatrics was going to be a much longer process. Liv-Lite was very helpful to me while I was waiting for KC bariatrics. I was impressed with how they handle things for me so I made the switch. I was hesitant to go with a surgeon that was 3+ hrs away. But I spoke with the ladies at Liv-Lite and they helped ease my fears about that. Also, I recall reading in the literature from KC-B about them not doing anyone with a BMI over 60 I believe. My BMI was 63 at the time of surgery and Dr. B didn't have a problem with that. A side note is, the docs through Liv-Lite do OPEN surgeries ONLY. I'm very happy that I went with Dr. Bollman/Liv-Lite. I have met lots of folks that used KC-B and they have had nothing but good things to say about the program. The consult was basically all about the procedure, do's and don'ts, weigh in, questions for the surgeon...etc. The pre-op testing is very physical he goes in and does a scope to check for ulcers and such (this is technically a surgery and done as a same day surgery). They give you a blood gas test, heart test, breathing and a whole host of other things. This to insure that you are healthy enough to actually go through the WLS procedure. I'm pretty forgetful and my explaining things are sketchy. I'm sure I left something out but most programs are great about explaining things to you in great detail. So whatever I missed you can pick up at a seminar. I can't remember all that was on the medical history form but I know I filled in about anything that wa a direct result of being obese (co-morbidities). This is so they can have the info prepared for the insurance company for approval. It isn't much different then the one you get from KC-B...I actually filled that packet out also. Did I miss anything? I feel like I didn't explain this stuff well so if you have more questions, ask away!
