No Surgery at all

The phone rang earlier today and I was hoping it was from my surgeon, which it was.  However, I never expected to hear what I did.   The surgeons (6 of them) met regarding my case and decided to not do my surgery as they didn't feel I would live through it.  I felt like I was kicked in the gut.  I asked about the lap band and was given the same response. So now what do I do?  For the past 6 months I have been doing all the insurance requirements, drinking more than enough water and chewing my food until my jaw ached.  We are told that it's virtually impossible to lose on our own once our bodies are so out of sync. Do I sit around and wait for the outcome of my diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol,  and now we add sleep apnea to the list.  My only chance of getting out of the wheelchair is to lose enough that my total knee and fused knee wouldn't be so painful to walk.  I have no idea what to do My family have been wonderful making sure I know they love me.  How do I tell them what this has done to me, how do I make them understand.  I try to put on my "happy" face but they know I'm not at all happy now. Please pray for me to have the strength I need to accept this. Trudy

I am truely sorry to hear this. What reasons did they give for their decision? Do you have heart problems? I wouldn't give up, their are other doctors. Do you ever watch Big Medicine. They do surgery on patients that are very high risks. What were their reasons as to why they didn't think you would live thru it? So many questions.....I will keep you in my prayers that the Lord will lead you in the right direction.....

TRUDY....I'm sorry about your surgery news but I agree with Beverly. Try other doctors because with what ailments you have listed I don't see a reason for them to turn you down. Do you have some sort of major heart mal-function? I will keep you in my prayers, that something or someone will come up with a way to get you what you need! Love & Prayers Abundant....Deb M

Hi Trudy! So sorry and hurt for you, though I can't imagine how you feel right now. I too would be interested to see why you have been refused surgery. I agree the docs on Big Medicine have done a lot of tough surgeries. They are in Houston at Methodist Hospital. You can get hooked up to Big Medicine website by clicking on the box to the left of this message board. However, you may want to try the University of Missouri, Columbia. That is where I am having surgery in a few weeks (August 6).  They really seem to know their stuff and they have a great staff. Just never give up! You will be in my prayers!  Hugs, LaNeta 

Trudy..Girl I am soooo sorry about your news!!! Your are in my thoughts and my prayers....I hope you will do as the others have mentioned and check into other options of getting surgery.....                                                             Do you need to loose weight to have the knee surgery you are speaking about??? Do you have alot to loose??? I and others have lost weight before surgery doing the liquid protein diet....Have you tried it?? I lost 57lbs in 3 months doing it before surgery...I done so well that my mother, sister and my neice are all giving it a try.... TRUDY, SO SORRY ABOUT YOUR NEWS, I FEEL SO BAD FOR YOU BECAUSE I HAD A SIMILAR SITUATION IN APRIL.  I GOT SO FAR AS TO HAVE AN APP. WITH DR. RONNIE KEITH IN NORMAN OKLA.  MY HUSBAND AND BEST FRIEND WERE SITTING IN THE OFFICE AND WE WERE VISITING WITH ALL THE PATIENTS AND WATCHING LOTS OF THEM BRINGING OUT THEIR PROTEINS ETC. AND TALKING ABOUT THEIR SURGERIES COMING UP OR ALREADY HAD SURGERY AND I WAS ON CLOUD 9.  WELL THEY CALLED MY NAME TO GO IN AND AS SOON AS I MENTIONED THAT I HAD BARRETS ESOPHAGEOUS THE DR. SAID ,,,,you are not a candidate for lapband or any other surgery,,,.TO SAY THE LEAST I WAS DEVASTATED. CRIED ALL THE WAY HOME AND THEN SOME.  I HAD ALREADY TRIED GETTING IN TO SEE SEVERAL DRS. AND AM WORKING WITH DR. HOEHN NOW. NEEDLESS TO SAY I'M STILL WAITING, TURNED IN MY PAPERS APRIL 10TH AND ALL I'VE HEARD IS 4 CARDS SAYING THAT THEIR WORKING ON MY CASE AND THANKING ME FOR BEING PATIENT.  SO DON'T GIVE UP, WE JUST CAN'T.  I MAY GET TURNED DOWN AGAIN BUT I AM TRUSTING GOD AND KNOW THAT HE HOLDS THE FUTURE AND I'M HOPING AND PRAYING THIS TIME I WILL GET THE ,,,,APPROVED,,,.CALL SOON.   SO DON'T GIVE UP, I SAY AGAIN,  YOU'RE IN GODS HANDS AND HE HAS A PLAN FOR YOU.  KEEPING YOU IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS,,,,LOVE YOU MY DEAR,,,,,,DAR ,,,  JUST CONTINUE AS THE OTHER GALS HAVE SAID.
