Question!
OK...my first of many post op questions for my experts.....I am on the week of high protein liquids this week, and am doing pretty good except all the protein shakes really upset my tummy. I am doing soups with added protein in them fairly well, although my pouch likes them without the extra protein. I did try suger free instant breakfast and it went ok. Is this something that is pretty common? I talked to the nutritionist in Mexico and she said instant breakfast was fine or sugar free ensure or sustacal. She said just relax and try the high protein next week, that it would probably be fine. She did ask me if I was taking my zantac (Iam).
Am I just trying to hard at this? I just want to make sure my body has what it needs to heal. I am doing a little better on the liquids, decaf tea is my friend and I found a crystal light that has some added electrolytes in it that has been really good.
Thanks for your help, I can't imagine going through this time alone!
Amy
Hi Amy, I am 4 months out today. there are days when I can eat one thing and then can't touch it again for weeks without it bothering me. The protein I did well with pre surgery but after ,no way can I drink them!!!The instant breakfast is fine, sugar free, and if you use milk with it that adds to the amount of protein. You might also try a mix of a little of both. Some tolerate the liquid protein better than others. I lived off cottage cheese and yogurt for a long time. If I find a protein that agrees with me in the future I will use them, but sometimes you have to experiment with the brands to find the one that is right for you.I wish you the best of luck. Julia
Hi Amy;
Watch the sugar free...most of the instant breakfast is just low sugar, but, not low enough for us. Watch the sugar in milk. That sometimes is the problem. All milk but Countdown is high in sugar. Most 11 grams per cup. That may help. It made lots of difference to me.

Amy,
I have been having a lot of problems with the proteins too. I found that milk really upsets my stomach. I started ordering the 42 gram bullets off the internet. They are called IDS New Whey Protein 42. I drink half in the morning and half in the eve. I also watch what I eat to make sure it adds to my protein. The bullets are 3 oz. so you have less to try and get down. I have bought some from ebay, and then from another place, that I can not remember the name. Hope that helps some.
How are you feeling otherwise? I hope you are doing well.

I had a really hard time with the protein as well. I too started taking the 42 gram IDS Bullets and I ordered them from http://www.fitnessfirstusa.com/bariatric.html#liquids. It was the cheapest place I could find them. I just take one bullet a day and drink half in the morning and the other half in the evening. You can mix half of it with water and it takes like watered down koolaid. However I prefer to take half of it straight and just get it over with.
If you do decide to get it from there and don't mind helping me out let me know and I will send you my referral code. For evey 3 referrals I get a $50 gift card to use on a future purchase. Every little bit helps! : )
Good luck on finding something that works for you. It took me about a month but it always different for everyone what works best for one doesn't work for another.
Thanks
Amanda
