What Else ?

I just wanted to stop by and say hello. I went to see Dr. H’s seminar Tuesday. He seems like a nice guy, however; I can’t see driving two hours to get my RNY done there. Does the hospital have oversized bed ready for big people? What will they do if something goes wrong? It concerns me that he was more focused of the surgery side fixing the problem verses the psychological issues of why we over eat and how we can make a lifetime change?

Today I went to the doctor for my 5th month of 6th diet. I have gained a few pounds. :(  The doctor wanted to put me on a diet pill Phentermine and see if I could lose weight. Well let’s just say I didn’t want to take it because of the risk of high blood pressure. Hello, I’m almost 400 pounds that not a good thing. I went to PDR health and see the other side effects of this med. Hello, the first thing that I found was that it is effects my nerve pill I call it. Plus I have Hyperthyroidism and it reacts with my PTU that I take for that. To make things even better he wants me to consider the Lap-Band. I told him that I wanted the RNY.

Tonight I’m going for a sleep study to see if I have apnea. It just one more hoop to jump threw. I have been seeing a therapist that specializes in eating disorders to help with the adjustment WLS. It seems that I’m running around in circles and going nowhereOk I had a bad day yesterday with all of stuff that was going on. I didn’t get good news from my sleep study. The tech said that I have a hard time getting to REM sleep. Now I hope to get it taken care of and start getting a good night sleep and start feeling like a human.

Jane, honey, Surgeons always concentrate on surgery.  He has staff to work on the psych problems.  You're still focusing on fighting the system about where to have your surgery.  Let it go!!!  Just concentrate on getting the surgery done.  It will be worth any drive you have to do.  Many people drive to other states in order to get surgery.  Just do it!!!  I want you to get that surgery and start living your new healthy life.   Hugs, Lana

Total agreement with what Lana said.  Also I had my surgery in Junction City, KS. I live in Missouri, just east of the KC metro. I had a 3.5hr drive, a 5 days hospital day ( I had to stay one day extra because I lived so far away).  I had issue with going so far initially also. I spoke with Dr. B's staff and they helped calm my anxieties about the distance. The down side is I can't get to his support group meetings because I'm so far away.

IMHO, if you like/trust in the surgeon, then you should go with it. A good surgeon was key for me as I knew my life depended on it. Best of luck to you

I drove 4.5 hours away from my home to Little Rock to have my surgery done. I had to stay for a week after being released in a hotel as per Dr. Orders! I month and 2 weeks out I feel pretty good! couple of things!...no Phentermine IMHO...it is to stressful on a body and heart....I took this drug and lost 75lbs....when I went off the drug I gained it ALL back plus! as for sleep apnea...I lost over 40 lbs in a few months and the ONLY thing changed in my life was SLEEPING! It sounds like you are on the right track! getting all of your ducks in a row! The hospital where Dr. H does this proceedure has a 450 weight limit...so sounds like you are good there also!

good luck! nutti

OK ladies, I will let go. I needed a good kick in the butt. The second sleep study went well for the most part. The mask drove me nuts, but I felt like a got a better night sleep. Thanks for all of the support. Jane
