Hi Everyone, How much did it cost for the upfront $$$ for all the testing?  I got some paperwork from Wash. U. today and they want $550.00 upfront with an addition $200.00 for their liquid 2-week diet products.  I'm really disappointed as we live paycheck to paycheck with 7 people here.  SIGH - there is NO way we could come up with $100.00 much less $750.00.  What does DePaul charge? Thanks! Lori

Hi Lori I can't help you in that area, sorry. BUT it should not cost you $200 for a liquid diet for 2 weeks. I think you would be better off submitting papers for Medicaid. Yes, you have co-pays but they do NOT add up to $100...well atleast mine didn't. $35 co-pay for my Pulmonary Function Test and $10 co-pays for blood tests (I had to have 2). $3 co-pays for 3 office visits BEFORE surgery. I know what you mean about living paycheck to paycheck. My husband went to college and got his Bachelors in Sales and Marketing and yes he makes more than what he should at this point, but it is still not enough. I will begin working in September so that will help some. If there is anything else I can help with...let me know.. Cheryl

Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia doesnt charge any up front charges. That sounds like a rip off to me that is for sure. I have Medicare and the only thing that i had to come up with was what medicare doesnt pay but none of it had to be paid before surgery.  What i owed to the hospital and to Dr. H. that medicare didnt pay i have paid out monthly since surgery and just finished paying them off.  Jan

I would ask them more specifically what the $550 was for, and why they are not submitting this through insurance first?  I did did have to pay for the Psch evaluation as the Dr. was not covered under my plan, but otherwise only paid my insurance plans co-pays and deductibles.

Hi Cheryl, Jan and Tammy, Thank you for your information.  I guess all doctors and hospitals do it somewhat differently.  My mom wants me to have the surgery and would probably loan me the $$$, but my dad doesn't want me to have it.  So......we'll see.  He just loaned Michael (our oldest) some $$$ for his last semester at college.  But whatever works out I'm sure is what is meant to be. Thanks again! Lori
