I need to know what is the difference between sugar and sugar alchol  I havent bought things because of a high sugar alchol.  so what is it and we should stay away from this also?  now I hear about yall drinking protien and eating protien bars.....well I to have been concentrating on the protien but what of the calories?  I went into GNC and they had a sale on protien bars...no sugar....but over 200 calories....now I cant eat a whole protien bar....but if you ate one would you not eat a meal...wouldnt the bar be the "meal" I worry that Im eating to much. so now Im back to measuring.  and I looked at wal-marts for the bars and I got to confused...what do I buy? I did get some of those Bullits at GNC also orange flavor and fruit punch I mixed the orange with ice and the sf orange drink...mmmmm..not bad at all. those bullits have 100 calories also. so when I feel good about the protien I get bummed about the calories....I did this to LOOOSE weight. so I could use some serious guidence!  I also am going to try my hand at making some protien balls...anyone have a easy peasy recipee? and do you eat these as a snack...how many... or is it considered a meal? Im ready to expand the taste buds a bit. nutti

nutti right now dont worry about the calories. the protein and water is what you want to concetrate on. Probably if you add up your cal. for a day you will see that it is about 600 or so , yes you will lose weigh on it. the protein is what counts. later on if you are grazing then you could rackup a lot of calories but right now probably not. anything under 1200 will still lose weight the size you are now.

sugar alchols ? im not sure of you need to ask someone else about that. I know theydont bother me and some people they make them as sick as sugar does.

Wal-mart protein bars the ones called Pure Protein are good and taste good too. especially th one called smores . I when i am working eat a protein bar for my lunch since i dont have time to go out and get anything and this is easy to carry and all.

I have eaten half ones at home as a snack too tho and sometimes as a meal just depends what i have on hand and how busy i am.

The important part is getting in 90 grams (my doctors recomendation) or more of protein a day and at least 64 oz of water. Hope some of this helped ...HOpe to see you and Janet at the COF meeting Monday night. Jan

Hi Nutti-- In the booklet I received from my surgeon's office it describes what sugar alcohols are. I will post here for you and anyone else that may be curious about it.  Sugars Considered simple carbohydrates because they are more easily converted to energy by the body. Sugars can be added or natural. Remember, even if a product has no sugar added, it may contain natural sugar. Examples of this include milk and fruit. We most commonly think of sucrose (table sugar) as the only sugar, but many words on labels indicate a product has added sugar: Brown sugar -----Raw Sugar Cane sugar-------Corn Syrup Dextrin-----------Honey Invert Sugar-----Maple Syrup Confectioner's sugar--Corn Sweeteners Turbinado sugar-------Fruit juice concentrate High-Fructose corn syrup Sugar Alcohols Alcohol refers to their chemical structure. Sugar alcohols include sorbitol, mannitol, and xylitol. (These are the most common sugar alcohols---other polyols are sugar alcohols as well.) They are often used to sweeten foods instead of sugar. They also add texture, and moisture to foods. Sugar alcohols are digested slower than sugars in the GI tract, often have little effect on blood sugars, and are not cavity producing. Keep in mind they still have 4 calories per gram though, and for some people sugar alcohols may have a laxative effect. I know this may not be much information for you, but this is all I had to offer you--based on the booklet that I received.  Thanks, Cheryl
