Well if that is a part of Medicaid, last I remember Medicaid will not pay for weight loss surgery, medical necessity or not.  But please call the customer service # on the card to double check. If that isnt part of Medicaid, then again the best way to find out would be to call the # on your card and ask them directly--Do you cover weight loss surgery at all? Sorry if i wasnt any help! Good Luck! HUGS Amber

Thanks so much for your advice.  I did call and if they deem it medically necessary (after my physician sends a letter) then they may pre-authorize it.  I need to find out if they have done this before or if this is a dead end...again  thanks so much

well Im glad to see the insurance company has changed---maybe because they realize that real people need help every now and then!!! And your so welcome!!!  Glad I could help!!! Good Luck and keep us posted!!! PS Keep on them, write down every persons name you talk to--including the one that told you the above---it helps when they tell you something and that other person told you another---because then you can say--well so and so--said this on this date--now why the change etc  :) HUGS Amber

Medicaid an medicare both cover WLS. In fact it,there are a lots less hoops to jump thru than for many other insurance companies.

I do have Medicaid and it did pay for the surgery if it is deemed medically necessary. I hope that helped.  Elisa

Hi, I was on Medicaid as well. As long as it is deemed medically necessary you should have no problems. I had Insulin Resistance (the pre-diabetic stage) and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and they approved me.  Cheryl

I currently have medicaid also.  I am working towards having surgery.  I could not find a surgeon that took mercy care plus.  Most surgeons will take Healthcare USA.  If you call medicaid they will let you change plans.  Mercy care plus is still very new.

I know Dr. Hornbostel takes Healthcare USA.  He is in Sedalia.  There is a lot of info on him and his practice on this site.  He really is a good doctor.
