Card shower for Bob
I just got off the phone with Bob’s wife and was finally able to get an update. He’s been through quite an ordeal, is showing improvement, but by no means is out of the woods.
Bob’s initial surgery went fine and Dr. Scott was very pleased with the results. However, Bob’s blood pressure remained very low and he was having difficulties coming out of anesthesia. Later on Monday evening, Bob’s wife received a phone call letting her know that Bob was bleeding out and was being rushed into emergency surgery. The bleeding was not in the area of the pouch or the bypass intestine and reconnect it was lower in his bowels. The doctors do not know the cause of the bleeding but it is not the WLS directly that is the culprit. He’s opened up from sternum to pubic bone at this point and there are 5 drains in. On Wednesday night there was another episode of bleeding and Bob’s drains were full of bile. Once again rushed into surgery for a third time to address the multiple bleeders in his bowels – his wife was told at the time of the third surgery that they did not believe that Bob live through that surgery. But he did!!! Woo-hoo!!!! Since that time they have been washing out the drains and after the latest washout they said that he’s really responding well and they felt like it was a miracle that he’s lived through it. They will not do a drain washout today, but will keep Bob in a drug-induced coma and on the ventilator as well. They hope to be able to resume the drain washouts on Saturday and close him up that day if he continues to do well and then bring him out of the coma and off the ventilator. If all goes well then he could be out of ICU on Tuesday possibly.
He’s still got a rough road ahead of him and his wife truly believes the only thing that has kept Bob alive is the strength given to him through the power of faith and prayer. She is very complimentary of Dr. Scott and feels he is doing all that can be done to keep Bob going. She believes that the stress Bob has put on his body over the years has led to these difficulties and thinks that absent these issues he would have been home and up and walking and on the road to recovery already. She sounds like an amazing lady!!!
I have an address to the hospital:
University of Missouri HospitalI also have a URL that patient emails can be sent to: https://secure.muhealth.org/getwell/email.shtml

This is all the information I have for now. Bob’s wife said she’d keep me posted so I can pass the information along to all of you.
Keep those prayers going – he’s still in critical condition and has got a difficult road ahead of him.
