Surgery and Pregnancy Questions

Hello all, I need a question answered or maybe some advice.  Here is the scenario.  I am preparing to have gastric bypass in either December or January.  A new twist has been added.  My husband and I have been talking about having another baby on and off for a while.  Well he finally agrees that we are ready financially and emotionally.  My tubes were tied after I had my daughter in 2003.   So, I know that we need to have a ligation reversal.  Is it safe for me to have this done after gastric bypass?  I mean I know plenty have gone on and had babies after the surgery but I haven't not read about anyone having a tubal reversal after their gastric bypass.  Also, my bypass will be done laparascopic.  So please any advice or help to let us know about this decision would be much appreciated. Thanks, Kelly

wow that is a good question for sure and not one that i have heard of before.   First off grandulations on getting your surgery before too much longer.  The rest of your qestions i would recomend be discussed with your surgeon and /or a gyno doctor. Sorry i cant be of help on this. Welcome to the mo board and hope you come back often. Let us know what you find out to this regards ok?

Your digestive system and your reproductive system have nothing to do with one another.  Tubal reversals aren't always successful, but WLS won't affect that.  Another option, although costly, would be IVF.  If your uterus looks good, you ovulate normally, and your tubes are clear (eventually), your chances are good.  Having WLS can give you better odds at getting and remaining pregnant, BUT, it can still take a long time, even if there's nothing wrong with you (like in my case).  Good luck with your decision! They usually tell you to wait on getting pregnant anywhere from 6-9 months or even longer after you have a gastric bypass---the reason being is because the forming fetus needs plenty of nourishment and your body needs time to adjust to the surgery before it has to adjust to a baby too. Im speaking from a nurse point--but please touch base with your dr for full explanation!!! And GOOD LUCK on all you do and wish for! Amber

Yah know---I completely misread your post  LOL  Im so tired!  I apologize!!! But you should be able to have it done after gastric bypass, there shouldnt be to much scarring and they can always go in different spots than where they went for the bypass surgery. they will just amejs ure you are medically cleared before hand :0 Again good luck!!!  I wish you ALOT of success!!!
