First Fill!!!!!!

I had my first fill today with Dr. Edwards' nurse.  It was so nice to get a fill.  I knew I was able to eat more than I was suppose to but didn't feel full unless I did.  I have a 5 cc band and she put 2 cc in it.  I can feel restriction now!!!  I am so happy to have it.  Let's just hope it stays.  I had been loosing weight since my surgery, which isn't required, but the last two weeks have not been good.  I actually went up one pound in the last two weeks but I think I will be loosing it soon!  The fill procedure was fun too.  If you have Dr. Edwards, they take you down to room 150 after they weigh you, put you on an x-ray table, shoot your stomach to see where your port is, numb your stomach, pull this HUGE (if you are scared of needles don't look!  I'm not) needle out with saline attached to it and use the x-ray to stick it in your port.  then, they slowly stand you upright with the table.  After you are upright, they have you drink ?barium? and as you swallow, she put in the saline.  She will adjust it to where it flows through real slow.  They may not normally put 2 cc in but I told her I needed RESTRICTION!!!  so far, I am feeling great.   I am glad I got this fill, I was starting to feel down as I knew I was eating more than I should have even though it was less than before the band.  I just feel relief now!   Jennifer

Isn't it cool to see your band and watch the liquid pass through?  Glad you're feeling restriction.  I remember it seemed like forever until you could get that first fill.  Hope it lasts awhile but if not, don't be afraid to call to get another one.  I've had 4 now and think I've finally got perfect restriction for me; but everyone's different.  Hoping yours lasts a while.  You've done a great job even w/out restriction so keep up the good work!

Jennifer,  thanks for writing these details.   I have my first post op appt next Tuesday and wi**** were for a fill. Glad to read this and know what to expect.   Do you think Dr. Edwards ever does the fills? Were you hungry every day prior to today? barb

not that I know of, he usually just lets his nurse practioner do it.  She did a good job though.   I have been hungry for about the last two weeks!  It has been horrible..I think that is why I didn't loose and at least I didn't gain.  I could tell all the swelling went down around my band.  I still couldn't eat what I used to eat but it was more than I was suppose to.   Does that help? I DIDN'T GET TO SEE IT!!!!    I wanted to and told her that but then they stood me up and she didn't move the screen around enough and I missed it.  She said to make sure and remind her next time and she would.  I told her and then she got distracted and I missed it!!  WAH!!!!! Jennifer

I got my first fill on Wednesday and it wasn't as cool as yours!  My surgeon was two hours late due to broken equipment at the hospital.  they do their fills in the office, so it wasn't as interesting as yours sounded.  I just got to lay on a table while he prodded my stomach, numbed it, then tried to find it with that really big needle!  I was a little sore thursday, but better today.  I can feel some restriction, but not much...I go back in Oct.  I only got 2cc's also, but I think I have a larger band. Congrats Jennifer!  Cant wait to meet you on the 24th!!!

you got yours sooner than I did but I'm sorry yours hurt!   Mine didn't hurt at all.  They did a really good job, no poking, no prodding, she used the machine to find the port and then everything went painless and smooth.   I can't wait to see you on the 24th either!  will be nice to have other banders there!  LOL   Jennifer
