NEW SPRINGFIELD SUPPORT GROUP

NEW SPRINGFIELD SUPPORT GROUP THIS NEW GROUP IS NOT INTENDED TO PULL YOU AWAY FROM THE CURRENT SUPPORT GROUP THAT YOU ATTEND.  WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL REQUEST TO HAVE MEETINGS MORE THAN ONCE A MONTH.  THIS REQUES IS SOMETIMES DUE TO PREFORANCES TO CERTAIN SCHEDULES,PERSONALITIES,ACCOUNTABILITY, LOCATIONS OR FORMAT.   IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING THAT YOU COULD BENEFIT FROM  COME JOIN US ON THE  1ST AND 3RD MONDAYS OF EVERY MONTH BEGINNING NOVEMBER 3RD 6:30-8:30 THE LIBRARY STATION NORTH KANSAS STREET SPRINGFIELD MO. STORY TIME ROOM. OPEN FORMAT/DISCUSSION/SUPPORT.      WE ARE LOOKING FOR A NAME FOR THE GROUPAND WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS. 

ONE OF THE THINGS WE ARE GOING TO TRY IS ROTATING THE LEADER EACH TIME.      DUE TO THE FACT THAT SPRINGFIELD ALREADY HAS SOME GREAT WLS SUPPORT GROUPS AVAILABLE, I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO CLARIFY THAT WE ARE SUPPORTIVE OF ALL THE OTHER GROUPS THAT ARE IN PLACE. THIS GROUP IS INTENDED TO BE SUPPLEMENTAL NOT COMPETATIVE. I HAD RNY 3 YEARS AGO IN ST.LOUIS. I WAS IN A WHEEL CHAIR AND ON OXYGEN. I HAVE LOST 225 POUNDS.I NO LONGER REQUIRE OXYGEN OR A WHEEL CHAIR.THIS SURGERY SAVED MY LIFE. ITGAVE ME A SECOND CHANCE. ALL THE STUFF I HAVE READ SAYS THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SUCESSFUL WITH WLS ARE THE ONES THAT ATTEND SUPPORT MEETINGS. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE. LET'S TALK! Jean E Wood

I'll be praying for you and your new group too Jean!! Wow - you all in Springfield are rockin' with the support groups!  Man oh man!!!  Here I am in Sullivan without a stinkin' one!!!  I have to drive over an hour to the closest one.  Just not doable with time, gas (and St Louis traffic!).  Guess I need to get on the ball and get one started for folks near me.  ;)

Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Maybe you can start one closer to you. I bet there is someone close that is wishing the same thing. How about "Friends in Support" of Bariatric Surgery Group" ? or Supportive Friends of Bariatric Surgery? Wish I could find a support group closer to my home. There is one in Lee's Summit about 35 miles from me, but, I won't drive at night alone. I'm Chicken!

I will share your name suggestion with the others when we meet. You should ask at your surgeons office for them to help you locate someone close to you.Or put the word out on the board. I hope someone replies that is looking for a group in the same area as you.

Even though Springfield seems to be really full of support groups. The truth is that there are people that come to these support groups from many miles away. Some even 60-100 miles. It is convenient for those of us that live in Springfield but there are those from Hermitage,Bolivar,Buffalo, ElDorado Springs,Joplin,Cedarcreek, Ozark,Fair Grove,Republic,Pleasant Hope,(just to name  a few)that  drive to the support group of their choice in Springfield. I live on the north side of Springfield and when I go to COF on the south side it takes me atleast 25 minutes.I think those of us that make the trips have found that the good out weighs the bad. The groups have been very beneficial for me. Thanks for the post. Jean E Wood

Barbara,    Where is Freeman?  I drive 55-60 miles to lead it.  Just wondered if any of our attending members live near you?  Colette

Colette' thanks for asking. Freeman is 10 miles straight west of Harrisonville, Mo. It isn't the miles, I just don't like driving at night alone.

Don't these dates and times conflict directly with other support groups in Springfield? Maybe I'm mistaken, but it seems like they might. Just curious.

I am not sure but I thought COFwas on the 4th monday and I am not sure when New Beginnings (St.Johns)or the one at Cox have thier meetings there meetings. I think they even have smaller groups that have splintered off into smaller specialty groups. I don't know the meeting dates for them either.We discussed the dates and these were the ones that worked best for the 6 of us that were in on the planning. We will reevaluate after we have had a chance to get started. Thanks for the post. Jean E Wood

In regards to COF it only conflicts with the November meeting. Otherwise the two groups meet on different Mondays till June of 2008! Yay!
