Dr. Follow Up
I went to see Dr. H Tuesday and he was very pleased with my weight loss so far. I got a b12 shot and a rx for the next 3 months since I don't go bac****il then. He has cleared me to swallow pills now so that will help me a great deal, now maybe I can get all my meds. in and start feeling better? As of the 21st of this month I have no restrictions on my diet (just in time for Easter!). He did tell me that I could have beef now. I love chicken but was getting really tired of it. He gave me a resturant card saying that I have had surgery and unable to consume a reg. portion and ask that I be able to get 1/2 portions, or order off childs or seniors menu. I think I would feel funny about giving that to a resturant manager or asking for that, I don't know we'll see?
I am going to start going back to water fitness at the YMCA with Debbie D. we are going tomorrow morning. I just hope I will be able to make it through the entire hour my legs are so weak. Dr. H said that I will probably feel weak like this for a while and won't feel really good until probably fall.....
Since I have lost 59 lbs since my surgery people notice it a lot in my face and stomach area. My friend told me that my eyes look larger since I don't have all the puffiness around them anymore. I didn't really notice that until today as I was sitting at my desk watching my digital photo frame and I saw a picture of me that was taken in Oct. and in the picture my eyes were so tiny you could barely see them due to all the fat around them. I looked in a mirror and could really tell the difference losing 59 lbs makes!
Bev,
So glad to hear that Dr. H gave you the go ahead for pills and food. When you first eat hamburger try it cooked all broken up like you would for chili or sloppy joes. I still cook mine that way and like it best and it seems easier on my pouch. It makes me able to see how big a bite I'm taking - when I bite off a hunk I think I bite like I did before surgery - too big. I also sometimes make a gravy or sauce and put on it - helps it slide down more easily. I also cook steak really rare or cut it into tiny and I mean tiny pieces before I eat it. Beef and I are friends, but I'm very cautious of it because it seems the hardest thing for me to feel comfy eating. That said chili and taco filling are great for me - that broken up thing I think. I found some really low-carb taco shells at Wal-Mart and I think they are wonderful with taco meat, beans and cheese. I sometimes just make a taco salad using them. For salad I prefer the shredds since they seem to set best and iceberg lettuce is easiest on my pouch too.
See what all I can tell you without you even asking.
I'm just so relieved that he approves of you and I think the vitamins and more solid food will make you feel better too. You know how worried I've been.
Hugs and loveys,
Lana

Thanks Lana, I can't wait to have a salad again miss it so much! I did try hamburger ate really small bites to see how I did on it and I did good. I think it's a lot moister then say chicken so it seems to do well in my pouch.
I tend to eat too fast so I started to do this. I would take one small tiny bite and put my fork down until I was through chewing and swollowing it then I would take another bite that seems to work for me helps me not to eat so fast like I used to and to take smaller bites.
I think I will start feeling better now that I can take my vitamins and I'm working on getting in the protein!!!!! :)
